Amazon Vs. Clickbank Which is More Newbie Friendly

Continuing my research into the world of IM. I must admit, I have had a very difficult time finding good amazon products to market. Although, that is to be expected for a newbie. I was wondering about clickbank. I have expanded my research to include possible clickbank products. However, they all just seem so sleazy that I am not sure if that would be the best route for a newbie. Would anyone mind weighing in on this topic? Thanks!

    Clickbank is way more competitive and if you are brand new
    I would avoid it. Tons of competition.

    Go with Amazon.

        The problem with Amazon mate is that you get a
        really low commission rate.

        First of all - What is the goal of your prospect?
        You as the marketer are the solution provider.

        If your prospect wants a 6-pack. Then get Amazon
        traffic from a best selling Ab machine and educate your visitors
        that ab machines are a waste of money and that the secret
        to getting rid of belly fat lies in diet and habits.

        Then offer 'Truth About Abs' best seller and bank a 50% commission
        rate.

        It's a Win/Win. Thats what it's all about.

      Amazon is WAAAAAAAY more competitive than 99% of clickbank products, and it's getting annoying to hear people still tout Amazon as the "hot untapped goldmine" that it simply is not.

      Jan Roos'-style review sites are around by the tens of thousands, and with any product that costs over $100 and is even mildly popular you will likely face at least some stiff competition.

      Don't believe me? Google the following terms and see what comes up in the top 10 search results:

      *snow thrower reviews
      *chainsaw reviews
      *cordless drill reviews
      *composter reviews
      *elliptical machine reviews
      *wine cooler reviews

      etc, etc, etc. Review sites EVERYWHERE! You'll see the same thing for thousands of other supposed "goldmines".

      I work with Amazon too and think it's a solid affiliate program, but it is time people stop misleading others into thinking its easy and wide open for the taking. The secret got out a long time ago, guys. Don't lie to newbies and tell them that it didn't.

      I make a full-time living with Adsense, but besides that, Clickbank is my next biggest income generator. Alexa has some great tips in the thread she linked to above. Follow them (as well as basic common sense and solid marketing principles) and you can make a lot more money than you can competing with everyone else who are still convinced that Amazon is the next "big thing" in IM.

        I hear ye dude... after seeing godaddys $1 domain offer, which doesn't seem to work now, I spent around 2 hours looking for a good amazon product to promote... and the majority of 2,000+ EMD's I came across were Jan Roos'-style review sites on page one... a bit annoying.

        Most of them were pretty ugly to be honest, you think they'd spring for a decent header... I mean $10 will get you one.

        Anyway... I'm still a big believer in Amazon... yes, the web is filling up with a ton of cloned review sites... but, just make yours stand out and with plenty of good content.

        As for EMD's... I'm not even sure if they're that powerful anymore.... my top amazon site's best performing long tail keyword is nowhere in the domain name.... I'm still a little EMD obsessed though.

        Seems most decent, bestPRODUCTreviews.com domains are taken... and the .net's and .org's are following suit.

        I did eventually find 2 decent .org EMD's... took a while though.

        I've never had too much luck with clickbank... yes, the commisions are high... but because of this, the competition is insane.

        If you manage to find a decent non electronic amazon product, in the $200+ price range, with low to medium competition, build a site that converts, you'll make consistent money... remember though, amazon can be quite seasonal... so plan your campaigns.

      I can't understand how people are struggling to find good products to promote on Amazon.

      Go to Amazon, browse through their listings of thousands of products and the ones with more than say 10 customer reviews are good products because if people spend the time to go and leave their reviews of the product that means the product is selling well.

      Also, try and stay away from electronics due to the low commission rate and try and target products over $100.

        haha I should have been clearer. I see sooooooo many products that I think are amazing and I would buy....but then I go into the keyword research and scouting the competition and it just seems they are all so saturated....I am sure I am doing something wrong. Maybe I shouldn't pay so much attention to the competition? I dunno. :confused:

          Do you know how to check the strength of the competition properly?

          All niches and keywords will have some competition but it's up to us marketers to analyze the competition to determine whether we can compete or not.

          This is for seo purposes only, when it comes to PPC and other traffic strategies you don't have to worry about competition so much.

          Amazon does $3.6 Billion per year on their website. That's a lot of sales and a lot of traffic for us to tap into.

    All you need to do, to make it "seem" radically different from that, is to stay away from "make money online" and "internet marketing advice" products. The other 998 niches have thousands of non-sleazy products.

    Amazon. I often get multiple sales on products I don't even promote.

    People buy my product and get 3 more that they need. Those are rare but they happen from time to time

    I don't think anyone here said Amazon is easy, they just said it was easier in comparison to CB for newbies.

    Amazon is get tougher because of Google's panda updates, making it even harder to rank well for product keywords.

      Thanks for the solid advice everyone! I think my first attempt will be through clickbank. I found a product that I would actually buy (took a lot of searching lol), and I have a solid plan for how to market it. Plus, if it fails, then I can just convert the website to a niche blog and use adsense to monetize it.

    I think Clickbank is way better for newbies, for many reasons.
    In addition, payouts are way higher...rules for promotion are far less strict...cookie duration longer..etc..etc... i vote for Clickbank.

      I think its pretty clear where the most commission is up for grabs

      As mentioned above you can promote an Amazon product and also promote an associated Clickbank product on the same site to increase the chance of a sale, or even better create your own NICHE associated product and market it to your traffic.

      A beginner has to learn the process of making money online its not just a case of coming online and expecting to instantly make money so whether they choose Clickbank or Amazon they still need to learn the process and then give it a chance to work.

      The OP initially chose Amazon and is already looking for the next shiny thing because it was too hard to find a product on Amazon

      Well the truth is no matter what you choose to do, to make money online, it will be hard, (especially at first) and if you give up just because its hard, then you really don't have what it takes to become successful online.

      There are Millions of products available on Amazon that MILLIONS of everyday people buy (not just the IM Niche which is the main CB focus) and while commission may be less than Clickbank the pure coverage of Amazons customer base clearly shows Amazon is the choice but you have to stick with it and don't give up at the first hurdle.

    It's not just between Amazon and Clickbank, there are tons of other affiliate programs and the like from which to choose. You can always go the cpa route, just pick a legit cpa network and stay away from the scammy offers, as well.

    In my opinion, it really doesn't matter. Just go forth and follow general techniques you strongly trust to be workable and if you stay the course you will find what works best for you and even develop your own strategies to get ahead.
