Looks like lots of good content really is the way to go...

From out of nowhere, just after the panda update, a lone rider came storming into the top 10 of google, in some cases, multiple serps.

Old guns, no where to be seen... I still hanging on in there, have crawled back to serp 10 for my main keyword.

So... I market samurai this guy, thinking he's got a horse load of juicy pr backlinks I can piggy back on.

Hardly any... a couple of PR 1's and 0's....

His content, however is really good... I mean... this is an amazon review site, of a specific product in a specific niche... and they've milked the crap out of it.... so, it seems, having lots of fresh content is the way to go.

Yeah, the search engines really likes pages with low bounce rates (ie content that matches what the searcher was looking for). If they are sending visitors to that guys site, and the visitors are not hitting the back button and clicking other results, they will rank #1 until another site makes a major push with high quality backlinks.

This Backlink craze that everyone seems to have gotten into is over-rated IMO.

Sure some backlinks are useful but Content is King.

The fresh content algorithm apparently affected 30% of search queries, so it's a massive update. More significant than the Panda update which only hit about 12% of sites. Especially news and sports sites. It's a big opportunity too, though, since the top spots in the SERPS will shift quickly as events unfold.
