Hi all.

The most august government of Her Glorious Majesty Queen Elisabeth Blaa Blaa Blaa exetra; has just bummed the nice little web shop I was putting up this week!

In the UK the Gov was paying a good subsidy for electricity produced by solar cells on domestic houses, they have anounced that it will be reduced by about 60% that's right 60%

I can kiss that market good by, so now I have a domain spare erenewableenergyproducts.co.uk any suggestions what I might use it for, other than a paper weight? Maybe affiliate but to what? I've realy no idea but I bough it so I'd like to use it.

You seem to have given up so easily.

Even with a 60% reduction in subsidies, there are still subsidies, and people want solar power in their homes, because it makes more sense over the long haul to do so.

All the UK government has done is to reduce one of the benefits that your customers will get when they buy your product. But the govt cannot take away ALL of the benefits of going solar.

If the subsidy reduction makes your job harder, then so be it. But all obstacles can be overcome by the person who can see fit to let no obstacle stand in their way.

      Well ... no ... but ...

This was a huge market that's disappearing overnight, Bill: not the "going solar" market (that's still there, as you suggest) ... but over here there was another one, a much bigger market, called the "We have absolutely no interest in going solar per se but have a bit of capital lying around earning next-to-nothing in this economy and will of course look at a secure, reliable 10% tax-free investment that might also add value to our houses" market.

This was the situation: people could put up solar panels and make a net 10% tax-free (average) on doing so. Which was an enormous incentive, and very appealing to large numbers of people with absolutely no interest in solar energy per se, at all.

This market really has gone for long walk off a short pier ...

I agree with this, of course.

But people who were in the "tax-free investment potential through solar panels" market (not one of mine, thankfully, though I did once have a really good look at it!) really do now need a new market.

You could look at it that way, or you could see it as a whole new kind of opportunity.

Consider: The rest of the sellers in your market are probably thinking the way you are. Change your approach to "The Gov has taken thus and such away. Here's how you get that back -- and more!"

Might take some creative thinking and research, but I'd wager there are ways to make up the difference and then some. Find those ways, and you could take over that market, while everyone else is whinging about the lost subsidies.

Well, as they say, most gravy trains are pretty short.
