Holy CRAP. Aweber click results are WAY off!

Here is some information you may find interesting.

I found that my actual click results are almost three times what Aweber is telling me. Here is what I did.

I had a private post on my blog (no link in the sidebar). You could only find it if I gave the link to you which I did for my list.

I had the Aweber link point at my own tracking system which pointed to my blog page.

I sent out the email and looked at my stats the next day.

Holy cow what a difference. Almost three times as many clicks read by my tracker than what Aweber reports. Must be something to do with image tracking or something?

Anyway - found that interesting. Thought you might too.

i would say that seems very odd. i have done numerous checks on aweber stats. while they are almost always a bit off i think we all know that tracking email open rates and even clicks is not as exact as we would like it to be.

was this private blog post on a site where you could check the server stats to decide which is more accurate?

Well I use text only adds. I think it increases delivery, so that may be part of it.

The only way to measure a click with my tracking software was to click on the Aweber link. So no questioning these results, at least in my case.

I noticed this when I actually had many more sales of a product than there were "opens" of the email.

I had suspected things had been a little out of whack for a while. Interesting to see that others are noticing the same.

i never rely on tracking software when i see discrepencies like this. i am not saying you are wrong about this, but log files can usually help to shed light on what may have happened.

i have seen some crazy stuff in my 15 years online. one time when i saw something like this it was caused by 1 visitors computer being infected with spyware. somehow, my site got caught in one of those infinite refresh loops and it due to some coding in the spyware, the ip address was being faked, so my tracking software stats thought it was hundreds of unique clicks.

all i am saying is that there are lots of ways that a java or image tracking stats software can be tricked into giving inaccurate results.

your log files wont lie, and if there are any anomalies, you might be able to track down the who, what, when, where, and why.

If you are using Google analytics, that can be quite a bit off. Have a look at your server stats for accurate figures, and check the referrers.
