Can You Promote Amazon By Email?

Hi Warriors

I think I was told once that promoting Amazon products by email was against the rules, but in another thread a Warrior has stated that they've found success promoting Amazon products with promotions to their niche lists.

I've had a look through the Amazon ToS and rules and can't find anything.

Does anyone know whether promoting Amazon products by email is allowed?

Thanks,
James

    Hi James,

Yeah, some people do promote Amazon products directly to from an email. However, it's not actually allowed according to Amazon's terms and conditions and may result in an banned account if that person is caught.

I contacted Amazon to ask them this a while ago and they said that including an affiliate link to Amazon from an email was against their terms of service.

They directed me here. Read paragraph 6 for more detail:

    https://affiliate-program.amazon.com.../participation

You're also not allowed to promote directly from offline works such as a PDF.

What I tend to do is just send a link to a page on my website where the list can read more about a product or I share special offers with the list and direct them to my webpage.

    Hope this helps.

Can anyone help me out decifering what NathanDevlin is trying to say here?

      I can't figure it out.

Did you mean you can't promote Amazon by distributing a PDF online? PDF's are normally read on a computer, not "offline."

If you can't promote Amazon by directly putting affiliate links in a PDF, that would surprise me, and it would also make a great WSO I got last month pretty much useless!

There is absolutely nothing against Amazon's TOS for promoting your presell pages. You just cannot make any direct or hotlink from off-site promotions. For years I have been promoting Amazon in this manner using email, ezine solo ads, articles, ebooks, and even offline promotions such as magazines and newspaper advertising, direct mail, coupons, gift cards, telemarketing, and even some radio advertising spots for high ticket items.

        Hi,

I basically meant that putting Amazon affiliate links in a PDF is against their terms of service. What I meant about the "offline" thing was that you can only link to Amazon from a webpage.

In fact, the only reason I found out that you're not allowed to link to Amazon directly from email is because I contacted them about whether it was allowed to include a link in a PDF.

They said that we're only allowed to use out Associates link on a webpage so that they can track exactly where links are coming from if any problems should arise. If we promote through email, people may accuse Amazon of spam and also, if you're allowed to link from other sources instead of web pages, it's more difficult to detect if any cookie stuffing is going on.

Amazon TOS says that associates links are not allowed in:
"any printed material, mailing, email or attachment to email, or other document, or any oral solicitation"

You do have to be ON-line to click a link from a PDF and have it go anywhere, however.

Imagine a QR code posted on a billboard.

You have to be online for the QR code to lead anywhere, but doesn't it seem sort of silly to propose that the billboard is online marketing because it has a QR code on it?

    Thanks Nathan.

That's a shame. Promoting to email lists could be a great way to get clicks that will turn into sales - especially at this time of the year.

Still, as you say, sending subscribers to a page with links to Amazon is still allowed.

It still works GREAT James just send them to a product page which give them more information about the product. Promoting Amazon products using a list is no different to email marketing any other product, it WORKS and you will see a spike in sales.

I must admit I don't do it as much as I should for my product sites but I know Myob focuses a lot on marketing his Amazon products via this method.

Just be sure not to put an Amazon Affiliate link in the actual copy and you will be OK.

Do NOT give out such bad advice as that

If someone followed your bad advice and loses their Amazon account because of it WHAT THEN.

That is a CLEAR BREACH of Amazons TOS and if you do it, and get caught you are toast and your account will be banned.

The only correct way to do it is send to your own Product page first.

That all makes sense. I've been selling Amazon products for years through websites. Some have email sign up. I just direct people back to my website, then through the link to Amazon.

Ok, NathanDevlin, this has really cleared it up for me. I had no idea that this was the case.

Just means I will have to use the PDF to send traffic to my website instead of direct linking from the PDF.

On another note, I would love to tell the people who sold me that WSO that what they are telling everyone to do is against Amazon's TOS! Just a bit surprised they didn't know that as I respect them and don't see them as scammy sellers at all.

I think if you had said "offsite" this would have made more sense to me, when thinking offline I am thinking not even reading it on a computer. Anyway, was just my own confusion.

Use a pre-sell landing page. Your conversion rates will almost always be higher, even if you get less clicks to the actual Amazon page.

Actually I had a blog generic to daily deals and I create post when I receive some info about the new events form Amazon. (Thanksgiving, the Kindle Fire Launch, Fridays Specials), then I send and email to my list (all my subscribers are deals buyers) to the post and get some good conversions.

What I do to be able to get round the email problem is to create a pre-sell page where people visit a link that they are sent in an email campaign to one of my pre-sales pages and then on that page is the affiliate link through to amazon.

very easy to do and has a great conversion rate.
