How To Make $1,000,000 P/M With Info Products

Hi Warriors

I came across an incredible interview the other day on the 4 Hour Work Week blog. Tim Ferris was interviewing Mike Geary. He's the author of The Truth About Six Pack Abs - a product I'm sure all of us have come across at some point.

If you want to learn how Mike has turned his eBook into a $1 million per month business then have a read of this interview.

The Truth About Abs: How To Make $1,000,000 Profit Per Month with Digital Products (Plus: Noah Kagan results)

Enjoy.

    1 million dollars a month, that's insane.

I'll definitely check out the article.

        From the article...
The business as a whole (all three components listed above) generates just shy of $1 million in revenue per month. Total revenue for last year was approximately $11 million.
        And here's the real take-away...
I act as a media buyer, purchasing large amounts of traffic (mostly in the fitness/nutrition niche) that I funnel to a few select partners. This allows me to become integrated into several other large fitness and nutrition businesses (they promote my product extensively on their backend) since I act as a very large source of their overall traffic.
        And this...
The next tipping point came about 18 months later when I started playing with Google Adwords, and learning how to purposely drive traffic instead of just hoping people would find the site.
What you will find time and time again about the big players is they have learned to leverage advertising dollars. They know their metrics and can predict with precision how much money will come in on any given ad spend. They learn this by testing until they get it right.

Bottom line...it takes money to make money. Coke didn't become the most universally known product on the planet by just creating a good product. They did it through spending billions of dollars on advertising. It's the same with Nike, of General Motors, or Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Advertising. Spend a dollar, get $1.70 back in sales. Or better.

Nice article, btw. Thanks for posting that.

"takes money to make money" This is very true. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Mr. Geary most likely purchased the interview with Tim.

I picked up Tim Ferris's book "Four hour work week" at the Brisbane Airport (Australia) It was the second time I had purchased the same book, 5 years earlier it was a lot slimmer. Although well written in terms of few typos and grammatical errors, although i did pick up a few errors, it was very verbose and repetitive.

The main thing he talks about is the wonderful lifestyle u can have internet marketing. He talks extensively about outsourcing, without any real insights until you get to around the middle of the book where you finally get the information (around 4 pages) that was the reason you purchased the book which is of course, how to actually get that wonderful fantasy lifestyle (which i of course already live )

The 4 pages told me to use google adwords and become a media buyer...hmmm...could mike geary and tim ferris be one in the same?

The book was a flowery read without any real insights or specific information. How I managed to accidently buy it twice is a total mystery to me.

I agree 100%. Paid advertising is the way to grow a business to levels unimaginable. With aid traffic one can scale the amount of traffic so much easier and it's also more controlled and diversified than just relying on free traffic from search engines and article directories.

I find that as probably the most important things... In my belief, it's not hard to buy targeted traffic and paid for it if you have a offer - a product that people want and are ready to pay for...

The most important key is to have a product that will solve someone's problems... that's why people will buy it... beside that you should make it as appealing offer as possible...

When you have that, buying traffic in any way or from any source is just a kids game...

Sometimes is only offer important, or the way you are presenting it to the buyers... I've saw a lot of crappy products that sells like crazy just because they have a very appealing offer...

1M per month is huge money and to get to that point it takes much more then just knowing which traffic to buy... so I don't think that fellow Warriors should be extremely amazed with success of this guy... after all, it took 5 years for him to get to that point, and I truly believe that anyone who decide to learn and try (with some errors and mistakes, of course) can get to that point, or very near to that point...

Most people tend to "over-complicate" the process which hinders newcomers to enter into the scene.

The truth is, most successful marketers found a "simple process" to implement their "simple idea" (BUT with a slight twist/slant from what majority of people do). You may have heard big-time IMer's like Paul Evans preach about "simplicity" and to "simplify" the process.

Think of a great idea, then take action. If you truly believed in it, be consistent and don't lose sight of that goal

Perhaps the reason why Warriors are amazed at his success story was because he STUCK through the whole 5 years to get to the point where he's at today. Others would have rested on their laurels, or quit when something didn't go as planned. Mike Geary probably got to a point (in his early years) where he was losing money, but he still pushed through anyway.

That's true. There weren't many diet or ab books around before he came along ... :p

... and it's not about being the latest hottest product. This has been a top selling CB product for a long time.

This really is a great example of marketing and leverage.

Also notice the time he put in. So many new marketers in the forums are looking to make $5,000 a month in 3 days. Be patient. Work your business. Build relationships and things will pay off.

Mike Geary is an internet marketing beast! I actually know one of the guys who has handled his media buys, and the volumes they are doing is staggering. I'm sure you have seen their banner ads all over the place.

Mike is at the point now where he knows exactly how much money he can spend per lead, and when you have enough consistent data like that, then you can spend lots of money and scale very quickly. Plus he has an army of affiliates, which is essentially free money.

        From the interview "
To get to this monthly revenue number, how long did it take after the idea struck?

To be honest, I was a little slow in learning marketing and building the business, so it took me about five years to get to those numbers. About two years into this venture, I was finally making about $50,000 per year with the online business. As I explained above, growth exploded once I quit my corporate job, and my earnings increased about 10x the following year. Growth in following years went to $3.6 million, then $6 million, and finally $11 million in annual revenue."

Persistence is something that every successful person has but this sections is utmost of importance in that it deflates the "get rich quick" 5 years tons of hours of time and learning and testing and such and finally he has a business he worked to make. Lest we forget that big ol 4 letter word is a REQUIREMENT. I find that very refreshing to read and certainly shows me I am on my way

That means that if this was my product I would be getting R7 000 000 a month...R84 000 000 a year and in 12 years I would have made a billion...

In the comments section he says...

"For a clarification on revenue, the way that clickbank works is to take the processing fee and the affiliate fee out before the revenue ever flows into my account, so that $11MM per year actually did not include gross sales numbers. With gross sales, it would be more around $20MM-$25MM per year I’m guessing."

To me Mike Geary is a very good marketer not because he is smart with media buys but because he is actually a very good teacher. Thats why he converts visitors so well. He has helped hundreds of thousands of people achieve their health/fitness goals.

It's not easy sticking to one topic for so long especially when you fail a hundred times.

      This is so true.

My stuff up when i was starting was to work on 80 different project at once. that is a good way to go broke or earn $0. If you focus on one thing and getting it going to make it money then move onto the next thing.

I went from no money to literally 1k per month. That same site now earns 9k per month, no matter what I am doing or where I am in the world. Awesome stuff and a big lesson. Stop jumping from thing to thing and focus on that which you truely love...and want to get going. Once focus comes so does teh money.

He started off knowing nothing and got there through intelligent testing
        And ...

I just want to continue simplifying my business more and more as time goes on.

I'd say Mike has one of the most simple business models and it's something anyone can copy. Perhaps not with the same success, but it can still be incredibly profitable.

          1. Create a high quality product that's in high demand.
          2. Create a salespage that converts and continually optimize.
          3. Get affiliates. Lots of them.
          4. Build a list

Obviously it's a bit more complex then that, but those are the fundamental steps.

    Wonderful article, thank you.

Here's what I took away from it:

    Know your market!

    Viz:
How did you decide on "Truth About Abs"?

It was simple really... A mentor told me to follow what I'm most passionate about, and that passion was fitness and nutrition. I can talk all day long about fitness and nutrition, so why not do what I love?
Fitness is obvious a huge market, and "six pack abs" is a profitable niche (and then some).

I worry that sometimes we focus too much on niches, without thinking about a niche's profitability.

The amount of money you can make in a niche depends on the number of people interested in your niche -- AND whether they're willing to spend money on products.

    Again, wonderful article. :-)

Just to get something clear here.

Once again, Tim Ferriss, despite all his qualities, cannot help but mislead the readers of this article as he has cleverly done before.

      Check out the title:

The Truth About Abs: How To Make $1,000,000 Profit Per Month with Digital Products (Plus: Noah Kagan results)

Then the quote from Mike Geary:

Total revenue for last year was approximately $11 million

      Straight away, a misleading headline.

Revenue is not profit of course. With all those costs, what are his profits? No sign of the figures.

If he really meant to say he was earning that much in profits or income, then why mention revenue?

Or am I just missing something?

Ferriss is extremely smart at misleading people. For example, how about the plug for his latest book: "The 15 minute orgasm" is one of the chapters.

      Hmm.

So it turns out, this chapter is actually about giving an orgasm in 15 minutes. Not one that lasts for 15 minutes. Without going into the details, it's not err, that difficult to do that Tim. Maybe we should be teaching you instead? Just sayin'...

Misleading headline by Ferriss aside, this guy Geary is indeed a great example to us all and the blog is to be commended for publishing the interview, despite the headline.

I'm about to start selling my first info product and the info in there is very useful, especially about buying leads.

Probably, yes... because Mike goes on in one of the comments to say this:

For a clarification on revenue, the way that clickbank works is to take the processing fee and the affiliate fee out before the revenue ever flows into my account, so that $11MM per year actually did not include gross sales numbers. With gross sales, it would be more around $20MM-$25MM per year I'm guessing.
So it isn't quite a "misleading headline"

He doesn't make all of his money from clickbank. And he spends a fortune on advertising. I just wanted to see what the profits were and I'm sure that could have been published as it's the key figure to take note of.

Ferriss's title is different to the context, so that is indeed, misleading to me. Just pointing it out.

I'm not knocking it, great info is to be found in there too

            Thanks for sharing this!

For me it is hard to not get bored (stick to one thing), indeed now I can't make up my mind which way to go... but my hope in that respect is to try to pick something I am interested in (or love) so work will be almost fun... and I will have to try for something which many others need and will pay for?

It would appear that he did not do simple advertising, like stick to only one method. So one product with multiple promotion efforts. I would think varying promotion and successfully counting revenues could help me avoid being bored.

I promoted truth about abs a while ago, made a few sales. The good thing about Mike is that as he says, he does alot of testing ie keywords, landing pages and passes this info onto his affililates. well worth being on his list.

    Regards

That was one of the most motivating things for me.

If you get on Mike's affiliate list, he'll email you letting you know about the split tests he's been running and exactly what impact it's had on conversions.

If he emails you telling you he's run a test that's doubled conversions, that's gonna motivate you to get another promo email out - or to ramp up your promotions.

That's one of the biggest things I've learned from Mike.
