How do some ezine authors get this many views?

I have written a lot of articles over the last 4 years or so and submitted them to ezinearticles of course. Some have lots of views - some don't.

But upon looking over a series of authors, almost all of their articles were submitted within the last 8 months, and the majority of them have between 150,000 - 200,000 views, and there are even ones who are closing in at 500,000+

If you check for back links - zip. Notta, nothing pointing back to the articles. So no off site optimization.

If you look at the keywords, they aren't particularly rich in this area either. If you look at the articles from a readership perspective, many have major spelling and grammatical errors, and their titles aren't attention grabbing particularly.

The articles are no more than 400 words (before the ezine update). Many of them aren't even that charismatic, entertaining, offer anything new in terms of information, and some of them are even on subjects that have very little interest. In fact a few that I read almost seemed like they were "talking out their butt".

The only thing that is left is that they are using scrapebox to up the numbers of views, but I doubt that - there's no major benefit of doing this.

Perhaps some have large mailing lists that they are showing their articles to, but I don't see the benefit in that either.

So what the heck?

haha, is there a secret club I don't know about?
