Future Keyword Question

Hey Guys,

Still learning a lot about SEO and IM everyday and have a question regarding a "Future Keyword." Lets say for example there is going to be a new product coming out soon, like a new phone. You have a feeling this particular phone is going to be very popular and would like to market to a keyword such as "whiteberry phone cases" Since you are assuming a lot of people with this phone will be interested in "phone cases". You plan on creating either a product or a guide/review. Is it a good idea and possible to start with a site and use SEO for that keyword you are guessing will become popular before the product is available? If so how do you go about targeting a keyword that you cannot offer yet, such as "whiteberry phone cases" for a phone that has not came out yet. Shortly after the product is released I will have my product ready. Product will be coming out in about a month.

Anyone with experience doing something like this? Sorry for the wall of text  and thanks in advance for looking

You can look at the number of searches of its 'predecessor'. For example, before the whiteberry phone is the blackberry phone. You can look at "blackberry phone cases" in GKWT, or other related keywords.

    Hope this helps.

People do this all the time with upcoming IM products. As soon as a product is announced, people start building their sites and campaigns, even before the release date is announced.

    Latnem,

not a new idea, but can be successful... just be careful with trademark domains.
Your efforts might be all for nothing if "Whiteberry Co. " decides to take you down for trademark infringement.

    Cheers,

    Short answer: yes, of course.

Many, many people do this already. I'm sure that when there's even a hint of Apple coming out with a new product, marketers are buying domain names and making plans for content -- and are publishing the content.

(BTW, re domains: never, ever use a trademarked name in a domain... but of course you know this already. :-))

Re keywords in general, and "future" keywords.

The best keyword tool you'll ever use is your brain.

Remember that ALL keyword tools are historical. They can only show you which terms people searched on in the past. They can't show you which terms people will search on today, or tomorrow.

You need to learn the basics of SEO. However, knowing your market is much more important. There's no point in getting a lot of traffic to a site or an offer, without conversions.

Therefore, always focus on conversions: you're interested in sales, not traffic per se.
