What is the best time and/or day to submit a press release?

Hey all! I am getting ready to submit my first press release to about 5 or 6 free press release sites. Is there a certain day and/or time on that day that anybody would suggest that I submit the PR to get the best results? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you're looking just for search engines to pick it up or to create backlinks, I wouldn't think it matters. If you would like the media to pick it up, Fridays are not good days because of the upcoming weekend and Mondays aren't good because everybody is getting back to work.

I agree with DeePower, it's best to send your release on Tuesday or Thursday. These are less busy news days, so you might have more exposure.
Also everyone (editors) is returning to the office on Monday to a thousand emails, Thursday is the day when people start thinking about the weekend, and people try to take off on Fridays for long weekends.

Keep in mind that it's more important to have a well written press release, for a well defined target market and being prepared for radio, tv or newspaper exposure.
And the questions they might have.

I used to submit Press Releases on Friday and hope to get them approved by Monday...

Monday is not a slow news day at all--in fact Monday is probably the busiest day for news--which also means that it's probably the most competitive day to get your press release seen... which is a good think in my opinion

I learned that--not only from writing press releases for myself and others-I also learned that from press release writing pro's years ago...

The news meter starts out high at the beginning of the week--it starts to feather down as the week goes by--because people's interests begin to gradually decrease from Monday through Friday.

Amendment: It's always better to have your active press release up for the entire week--which is another reason why it's good to have it available on Monday... Don't be afraid of the competition though--just make sure you write a good press release

      This has been my experience...

Totally agree that Monday is traditionally the busiest news day of the week. You do not want to send a release Monday unless it's significantly more newsworthy than anything else, you're willing to pay much more than the delgated amount to get listed high, or if it's extremely time sensitive and absolutely can't wait another day.

In my experience I've found that Thursday is actually the traditionally slow news day for the media - and the best time to release a press release. The reason is that print media sources often have Thursday deadlines, so the reporters are swamped and not looking for anything else unless it's huge news. The only thing to release on a Thursday is "fluff" news because if reporters suddenly need to fill space they'll often look for things like that. All in all, I'd go for Thursday. Hope this helps!
