The domain is worth as much as the market makes it worth.

It depends on trends and how much value has a domain name nowadays when it is becoming less and less important for SEO.

Another thing you can do is look @ all the domains that are similar to your name and see how much they are going for on sedo.com , buydomains .

Does it have any back links or anything? Is it premium domain name?

I would look at the domain name and try to figure out why this buyer wants this domain, when You have at least some clue , why does he need it, You can try coming up with a price, if You are not planing on using it anyway, the price doesn't have to be too big to make it profitable for You.

No automatic tools will give You the right number for what is it worth to the buyer.

I sent a reply to the guy to make an offer
and he gave a lower amount to the appraisal
at estibot.com.

The guy even said "I ke this domain, although it's
not particularly valuable i'll be willing to pay slightly
over registration value for it"

My question is, if it is not valuable, why does he want
it? He is also pricing it a bit above what i bought it and
i have renewed it for 3years.

You need to at least get your money back for the time you've owned it! It must have SOME value to him or he wouldn't want it. Does it have backlinks or a keyword in the domain or anything like that? You haven't answered that question yet and that would tell us a lot.

Estibot and other automated estimating software is useless. It can't really give you the worth of a domain. A domain is worth what someone will pay for it.

You've got a domain you don't use. You've got an offer for that domain. Will you be happy with the transaction? If so, take it and let go of it.

Just don't get taken in by any domain appraisal scams. If they say that they want the domain but insist that you get an appraisal and suggest a couple of companies to do that, run. They own the appraisal companies and have no intention of buying the domain once they con you into an appraisal.

While this doesn't sound like the SCAM I encountered, and narrowly avoided...

There is an old domain scam that people contact a potential seller of a domain, then tell them that they are interested in buying domain XYZ.com (BUT) first you'll need to get it appraised (*or 'valuated') as he and his partners do not buy anything without 'validation'. <-- Major scam. They guide you to a fake forum, linking to a 'suggested' provider of authentic 'valuations' or domain 'appraisels' - when in reality, they get your money for the appraisal(s), and NEVER buy the domain.

Here's the skinny. Your domain is worth what you want for it! -Or What someone is willing to pay for it! - If you are being asked to get it appraised tell them to go fly a kite. Domain names are worth whatever a buyer is willing to pay for it. There is no need to get appraisals, as 99.9% don't mean Jack Schitt.

Unless you have a 'highly valuable' domain like a one-word 'dictionary' .com name... the best bet for pricing it is look into who owns the other extensions (i.e. .net, .org. .info or the occasional .me, etc...) and price it according to the market. Other factor's can involve traffic, development, monetization, brand-ability, etc... that would be a case where a 'broker' might be a consideration to fetch top-dollar for your investment.

However, if you just want to dump it and this guy has an interest in it, without asking you to get it appraised or valuated, then he probably just wants to develop a site, and may already own one of the other tld's.

At least get what you've invested back, and if possible a little more.

I did some domain selling in the past. Go to godaddy and get you domain Appraisal, also if you move you domain name to go daddy you can do some domain name Enhancements.

Now if the guy for example offered you $500 then list your domain name for sale in godaddy and use bids and put a reserve for $700 and see what happens from there. If you don't get any bids just sell him the domain name, maybe it has some value for him, but no value to the market.
