Questions To Ask Before Becoming An Affiliate

What would be a good set of questions to ask someone if you want to become their affliate?

I'm lookiing into becoming an affliate for a online jewelery seller. Questions I'm already going to ask are:

- How many affiliates do you have currently?

- How many units have you already sold?

- How large of an order can you handle at one time?

- Is there a minimum commission payout?

- What are your available statistics?

Suggestions?

If they have online presence (ecommerce site, etc.) themselves.
I found it easier to talk to those manufacturers who does manufacturers only and leave marketing up to us marketers.

Perhaps my description of the seller made them seem bigger than they are. It's just a guy who makes jewelry, and has a website.

If they're anything like other retailers with affiliates, this may be a little artificial. They'll perhaps have many who are "technically" affiliates but have never made a sale at all. It may be more helpful, at least, to ask how many active affiliates they have? Once you get up to a certain number, 10% of the affiliates make 90%+ of the sales. Those are the relevant ones, really?

It's not something that would be high on my list of sought-for information, I admit. And it may also not be high on their list of information to disclose to a potential affiliate, perhaps?

    Good question.

I'd be more interested in knowing if there's a maximum commission payout. (I'm not joking - sometimes there is!).

    your biggest concerns should be.

    1. is the affiliate tracking system reliable.

    2. what is their conversion rate. meaning if you send them traffic, will it convert to sales and thus commissions.

    3. most importantly, what sort of reputation or guarantees do you have that you will be paid in a timely manner.

What sort of tools and assets do they have to help you help them?

Amazon for example, provide a lot of great tools to help affiliates generate leads. EUK-Host provide a wide selection of graphical links, with code supplied etc.

Anyway, let us know how you get on.

Biggest question in my mind when I'm thinking about any affiliate relationship is "What's your conversion rate?" Second would be "What's your abandonment rate?"

You can send them prospects all day long, but if their forms aren't converting, you're not going to get anywhere.

I think you have to use the product first.

We never send our affiliates to places or sites or product we do not use ourselves. it is how you can lose favour with you list too. You have to treat them with car.

So as an affiliate the most important things are :-

    1) does the sales page convert well.

    2) Is the product any good.

If you cannot answer these questions quickly....move along to the next thing.
