Blog Keyword Question

Hey Guys,

Two questions:

1.
So I have a Wordpress blog with posts and a few pages. (the blog is the homepage).

From what I understand it is best to target a particular page with a keyword not the whole site.

[pretend keyword] = my keyword

So my site [pretend keyword].com and is about how to [pretend keyword] and similar news. My blog [pretend keyword].com contains posts about the [pretend keyword] and other related news.

Now my primary keyword is [pretend keyword] and I have a page specifically describing how to do this [pretend keyword] that is rich with my keyword at [pretend keyword].com/[pretend keyword]/

So is it best to try to route traffic from my keyword to this page? Or is it best to use your primary keyword to your home page "[pretend keyword].com" (which is my blog posts are not always rich in my keyword)

I was hoping to route traffic to that particular article since it would be exactly what searchers of that keyword would be looking for and then hope that they look around at other pages and my blog posts.

2.

The page I'm hoping to get traffic from the keyword [pretend keyword] is located at: [pretend keyword].com/[pretend keyword]/

(keyword is in domain name and page name) is this "spammy"? Will google from upon this?

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at this,
I find it difficult to research small details like these

p.s. last post got removed I assume becuase I used a fake website name for my examples. Hopefully this makes sense:confused:

I'll answer part 2 first. No Google will be fine with this as long as [pretend keyword] is not actually [this-is-my-really-nice-pretend-keyword] (for your domain url, it is okay for it to be this long for the page name.)

For part 1, it is fine to do it either way, though you should not have two pages with the same titles or description meta tags. If you pages are focusing around the same keyword, Google will typically prefer the domain rather than the page, unless the search was very specific, ie [pretend-keyword].com/[best-pretend-keyword] and the user searched for best pretend keyword, then he may be shown the page rather then the home page, otherwise, it is more likely that google list the homepage

Okay cool thanks for the info. And to clarify (somewhat) the page I was referring to, that I am trying to get keyword search traffic to is something like.

    thisismyfakekeyword.com/this-is-my-fake-keyword/
(its a bit of a small longtail and was worried saying it twice in the url might be bad)

    Thanks again
