How to Promote a Giveaway Event?

I'm running a give away event/contest hybrid on a new blog I started. Basically I'm offering to comment and share a person's blog post and give them a chance to have their site featured on my blog.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can promote this? Also, do you have any ideas on what would make a good contest/giveaway event?

Thanks.

    hi
add a new stand alone page in a blog and ask people to discuss in certain topic there, this would be things which is not present in blogs but it is in forum, but you can start there, and for permotion you can use social networking sites and put share on buttons on you blogs for twitter and facebook as well.

    Joshua,

I do a lot of giveaways and events/promotions on my blog. There's a bunch of ways you can promote it. If you pm me your website I can give you some better insight because a lot of this kind of stuff is niche-specific. I'll give some general ideas.

Have you already started the contest or is it an idea? I'll give you some advice below but it may/may not apply to you because I don't know what your site is, so please forgive me in advance - but maybe it'll be useful to someone else reading this thread also.

One of the best ways to run a promotion for free on your own blog is with Rafflecopter. It is basically a little code you can put in your blog so that to enter, they have to run through a checklist - follow you on twitter, fan you on facebook, leave a blog comment, tweet 2 times a day about the giveaway, etc. and each task they complete counts as one entry (thus giving them multiple chances to win)

I tried running a giveaway once already and it was super easy. I would start doing some simple free giveaways on your blog to drive traffic and create some steady blog followers before doing a contest that requires something more of them.

If you're already running the promotion, one way to help drive traffic to the contest is if you join a blog ring/blog rating site. It's basically a link exchange (some of them have it to where your followers can vote for you as a favorite).

If you're friends with any other bloggers, you can ask them to help promote you.

Since you're talking giveaways, tweeting with hashtags like #giveaway #prize #free #blog #contest etc will bring you some attention. Make sure you have a link to the blog post in your tweet.

Social media is one of the best ways to promote. If you have only wire (free) use it to submit every blog post/contest you do.

make sure you have a share button on your blog so people can copy your code and put it on their own sidebar with a link back to you.

If you ever give away a prize item, you can submit it to a number of websites that list free stuff and sweepstakes.

Honnestly, I doubt that anything will be as successful as a Facebook ad push to get it started, contests have a viral effect on Facebook like no other, just make sure your ad is very focused on your target audience...

The best ways to promote a giveaway event:

    - commit to quality rather than quantity
    - contact people you already know first
    - build your base of contributors from them
    - then ask for referrals to other quality gift providers
    - be the advocate for the people who signup for the gifts to make sure they are treated well
    - continually remind the gift contributors to promote
    - and you and the contributors promote in all ways possible: email, social platforms, video platforms, press releases, buy google adwords ads, etc

(from the guy who came up with the concept in 2003)
