For those with a product and personal blog:

Hey Warriors! I'm finally getting around to getting my name out there and doing a launch, but before I move forward, there's a simple thing holding me back.

How do I best integrate and organize a blog site and a product site (and squeeze page)?

Do I keep a blog on both ProductSite.com and MyBlog.com? Or no blog at ProductSite.com and keep it as a squeeze page, not letting people in unless they opt-in?

I'm very confused about where to capture leads, where to send them first, which of these two sites I should rank in Google, etc.

Help, please!

Jeff

It depends what purpose you have for each site.

What will the blog be for? SEO? or for the launch?

We have our blog on a separate domain from product domains. But, we do have links of course to our product domains from our blog domain.

That's the way we do it, and that's the way I think is best. It really depends on the product though. Does it really need a separate domain? We also have one product that we run off the blog domain because it doesn't need it's own domain. So that product is on blog.com/offers/product

All things being equal, I would say it's better to capture leads on the personal blog and try to rank it too. That way you can funnel all traffic to that blog, and then to the individual products that people might be interested in. This way you won't spread yourself too thin as well, by trying to drive traffic/capture leads/etc to multiple domains. Start with the blog, and work from there.

Thanks so much for the quick replies.

Let's say my blog would probably be MyName.com. I want the product to be a big name in the industry.

To further explain, I'm going to use the classic example niche, dog training. Say I have a product that actually sounds like it's in the dog training industry, like... "Loyal Canine System."

Is it better for someone who's searching on Google to land on MyName.com, with dog training tips in a blog with a link on the side to go to the product,; or straight to LoyalCanineSystem.com, the meat they might be looking for?

Your name and your product name are 2 different issues here.

    How would I do it?

My blog is my blog... but it is a blog related to the product niche. So in your eg it would be a blog about dog training.

I'd use the blog to rank articles with LTKW's and create an authority site.

Use a theme that lets you put a big otp in form near the top of the page under the header. Gather leads.

The product site should be stand alone inthis case with a squeeze page as your go to page.

You can also create multiple squeeze pages targeted at specific keywords and drive targeted traffic accordingly.

I think yourname dot com should be your blog only.

Ideally, you set up a wp site with a blog and sales page etc.

    Hi Jeff,

I cannot tell you what is "right"; but I'll tell you what *I* am doing at the moment.

I'm about to launch my first "digital product" ever. I have a lot of marketing experience, so when preparing this one thing was most important to me: Branding.

I want to deliver an excellent product and excellent value to people; but at the same time, I want them to recognise my name, my face, and what I stand for.

So for me, the decision was clear:

    a) create a blog that is all about "me".
    b) create great producs that point at "me".

That way I'll build a separate "brand" around myself that is not linked to any specific product.

    Cheers,
    Rob Konrad
