Installing Google Analytics to track traffic is actually quite easy!

This is for anyone who is fairly new to building their own website and looking for more information.

Tracking the traffic to your website is crucial to the success of your business because you need to know which marketing strategies are working and which ones are not.

When I went to install Google Analytics on my first site I become very frustrated because I am not a computer geek and didn't understand what exactly I was supposed to do.

So this is what I learned from my Uber-geek friend.

First you need to sign up for Google Analytics and then in the sign up process they tell you that you need to install some code onto your website.

Don't be intimidated by this, it really isn't that hard.

You just need to know 2 Things: 1)How to cut & paste text, and 2)Where to paste the text.

Now I am presuming that you know the basics of using a HTML Editor such as Kompozer (if you don't then click on the link below for your free eBook on how to do this)

Open your HTML Editor and select the "Code" view.

Now this is where things got confusing for me and I hope to make things simple for you.

Google wants you to paste their tracking code"BEFORE the first closing </head> tag". Confused? I was.

So these brackets "< >" are called "angle brackets" by geeks and you will have an opening angle bracket and a closing angle bracket.

Just think of them as opening and closing quotation marks in that you need an opening one and a closing one.

The opening head tag looks like this <head> and the closing head tag looks like this </head>.

All you need to know is that is what they look like.

Go the beginning of your website code and look for the very first <head> and then scroll down to the very first </head>.

You now want to click right before the </head> and then paste the code Google gave you when you signed up for Google Analytics.

Now just save your webpage and upload it to your Hosting account.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You now will be able to see where all your traffic is coming from.

To Success and Happiness!
