If you had a two thousand dollar budget....

And a decent knowledge of Internet Marketing, what would you do with it?

I was thinking A) set up a group of niche wordpress minisites. Outsource the SEO work, and then promote via Adwords.

Was also thinking of maybe having a couple professional sales letters written as squeeze pages and playing with AdWords. I do not have much experience with google adwords because of the lack of any kind of real budget.

Just looking for ideas/ insight.

Also thinking about joining Bring the Fresh- reading over whats their to extend my knowledge first also. Opinions on this?

Thanks much,
Tim

I would come up with a product of some kind, outsource the sales copy and put a link to it in an autoresponder. Come up with a squeeze page and drive traffic to it. Purchase a solo ad or two and get your list going.

Invest in building a list and it will pay you continuously.

My advice would be not to get involved with adwords just as yet until you have more experience. You can get into trouble with your expenses with adwords if your not constantly checking. Try to promote using facebook and other social media sites. And start building your list.

I agree with the Adwords advice above.

Buy a couple of proven income sites at Flippa and you could still have over $1000 left for some decent promotion

I really appreciate all the advice given to me in this thread. It really is invaluable!

I think the route I am going to go is to pick five good low competition niches and have professionally done blogs made. I then am going to have them professionally SEOd for a month or whatever it takes to achieve page one rankings. I believe this is a great way to have a passive income from the investment I made. Granted, itll be far from an instant return of my investment.

          Thoughts?

Just make sure that you don't do your initial SEO and then think you're "finished". With the right strategy, getting onto page 1 in a month's time is definitely doable. However, if you build up all of that SEO momentum and then just stop, you're going to lose those rankings as quickly as you got them. Remember, all of your competitors are steadily working on their SEO, too. Don't let them out-work you!

Nicole, thats funny you said that. I thought about including the fact that I know I am going to have to continue to SEO after that! Not only will that be the number one thing Ill be studying here in the next few months, Ill also have another 500-2000 budget for this plus increasing the number of my niches and adding fresh content to them.

Big Plan: Develop 25-50 good low to medium competition niches professionally SEOd and content added weekly to each.

    1) Look on Flippa.com to find a model / market that appeals to you and is making money.

    2) Spend $1000 on an aged / PR domain for that niche.

    3) Spend $500 building out the content (50 articles at $10 each)

    4) Spend $500 in link building

    1. I would make a squeeze page - split test A/B.
    2. Buy traffic to the squeeze page so that you get the maximum bang for your bucks.
    3. Create a product for the backend.
    4. Create a sales funnel, if you do not know how, just sign-up to Eban Pagan's course (any) and see his emails.
    5. Promote products on backend and collect qualified leads on the front end.
Don't waste your money direct linking to offers when you can be making a whole lot of money on the backend and hitting the leads with offers again and again if you go the route I suggested.

It is the only way I would spend my money!

      This...

With 2k budget you have a lot of place to test everything and make your investment back, but be careful promoting stuff on adwords, read their TOS carefully. Also try Facebook or Bing.

I do not think this is so much a factor of money Then it is a factor of people. You speak of outsourcing And I would say that you must find quality people. Then your money will be well spent. So make sure that you also are thinking about Time you will be using to train people, Find People, and provide quality instructions for those people.

Thanks much for the help suggested!

dvduval-- Good advice, is there any place around here that reviews odesk and people here at WF to outsource?

P Sharma- I am going to have to look into the whole sales funnel I am sure I know the general idea. You speak of making a product for my backend, would building a list and promoting quality products and services of othersbe suffice? Or are you suggesting producing an ebook?

The general idea I am hearing is building a squeeze page, promoting it with PPC, and work on building a list for long term. I also want to get into niche mini-sites based on making money off of Adsense and affiliate sales within them. I know there are plenty of people here that build mini wordpress niche websites. Anyone have any feedback on Verena?
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[5095034].message }}

I would probably go with niche mini sites myself. For $2000 you can afford to probably get at least 20-40 sites off the ground, depending how much content writing and SEO you want to do yourself. If you do a good job with keyword research on the sites, you could conceivably be making anything from $500 - $2000 / month with them, with some monthly link maintenance. So you know...monthly income is good.

I like the FB app idea. That makes sense.

I'd also really think about product development...but that is probably more a function of coming up with a good idea first, than just how much $ you have. But if you could set up a good product for $1000-$1500, and get the promotion off the ground, you could really get somewhere with that too.

Probably a lot of good possibilities. I would not put any of that money into adwords though - I think it'd be more useful other places. Good luck!

sgoergre- Also a fan of the mini sites with good SEO , your right, adwords shouldnt be needed.

Could any comment further on the FB app idea?

The product development will be down the road for me , I think, atleast at this point. I just think I should get something small off the ground before jumping into creating my own product.

      Much Thanks!

        Ummm...

I think some basic steps have been overlooked here.

You mention niche sites. What niche are you talking about? Have you decided on one?

How will you make money in that niche? Selling products? Services? Through AdSense?

        What's your business model?

The Facebook app idea sounds fun. But how viable is it? And even if it's currently viable, how long-term is it? If you're just starting out, that's NOT where I'd start.

I don't know about you, but I'm here to build a long-term business. A REAL business, not just to make some quick cash. I want an asset that will grow and provide income for me over the long term.

It sounds like you don't have much direction on what TYPE of business you want to start. Before you do ANYTHING in IM, you need to know this.

Clarity is a HUGE part of IM success.

IM is actually pretty simple: you can sell only one of two things:

        1. Products
        2. Services

        That's it!

And selling products or services online happens in the same basic way for everyone, no matter what they're selling:

        Traffic > Opt-in page > Autoresponder series (or e-zine) > Sales page

That's it! It's just that simple. (We IMers tend to overcomplicate things.)

But no matter what your niche is, or whether you're selling a product or a service, do you know what your business model is?

A business model is the framework or skeleton of your business. Essentially there are three types of online business models:

        1. Membership-based model

A membership-based business model allows you to build a community of people (your members) who are as passionate about your subject as you are. Your membership fees can be monthly or annual, but either way, you're building recurring, passive income.

There are a lot of resources and information out there to help you build a membership-based business if you're interested in doing this.

        2. Product-based model

Selling products allows you to maximize your time and effort by selling items over and over again. This can be hard goods or it can be information products. Information marketing is it's own business model under the product-based model. Information marketing allows you to take your brain to the bank by creating a product ONCE based on what you know and selling it over and over again.

I see someone has already recommended affiliate marketing. You can choose to market either products or services as an affiliate.

        3. Service-based model

Selling services can be great for 1) generating quick cash (as in the case of article writing or video producing) and 2) establishing your expertise and getting testimonials.

However, in the long run, your goal should be to offer services at a PREMIUM. The biggest advantage of IM is LEVERAGE. You're able to leverage your time, money and expertise exponentially online. We all have just 24 hours each day. Time to get ruthless about what you expect for those hours you spend in IM each day. Expect more of yourself and more from your business friends, clients, partners, etc.

What results are you getting for those hours you spend online each day? Ultimately, your services should be at the bottom of your funnel and cost the most since they involve your time and personal attention. (We all have a limited amount of time each day.)

The fun (and confusion) comes in with all of the endless mix-and-match possibilities of the above models. If you're just starting or still struggling to make money, keep it simple:

        Pick just ONE!

        1. Pick ONE niche. (Something you're interested in and know something about.)

        2. Pick ONE target market for your product or service. (Who will buy what you're offering? The more specific you are, the more you narrow it down, the more successful you'll be.)

        3. Pick ONE business model.

Now that you're clear about what business you're in, FOCUS! (And stop buying any info not related to your niche and target market, period!)

        F -- Follow
        O -- One
        C -- Course
        U -- Until
        S -- Successful

In IM, it's easy to put the cart before the horse. Take a deep breath, step back and consider what type of business you're REALLY want. Don't worry about getting traffic or buying that expensive traffic product until you know 1) what your business model is, 2) what niche you're in and 3) WHO your target market is!

Successful business people will tell you that MARKETING is more than half the effort that's needed for success anyway. So pick a niche, target market and business model. Then spend most of your time and effort marketing it.

If you DON'T have a solid plan or system, THAT'S when it's hard. A good system will shave YEARS (and save you big $$$) off of your learning curve

That's why I recommend investing in at least one good, comprehensive IM course (or mentor who will give you such a system) instead of jumping from one $37 e-book to the next. A lot of people here complain about not being able to make any money. But neither are they willing to invest in their business. (Buying a random bunch of $37 e-books doesn't count.)

The best thing I ever did was invest in a comprehensive IM course aimed at REAL business owners, not just other IM wannabes. Yes it was $1500. (Now it's only $997. :p) But it was truly some of the best A-Z IM info I ever bought. Everything else I've learned (from the $37 e-books) since has simply been plugged into this system.

Put your money away until you know the answers to these questions! Then spend that money (some of it, not all of it), buying at least one good, comprehensive IM course.

Get a solid plan or system and then work the plan!

        Hope this helps!

As above. Have you formulated a plan which tells you clearly that you need a $2k expenditure?

There's no need to go looking to spend money from the outset.

You should ask yourself what you want to achieve first.

But then again I would consider investing in a good copywriter!
