Why are my referring sites russian porn sites all of a sudden?

For the past week half of my referring sites are strange Russian sites, mostly porn and a few template sites.

How does this happen? I don't see a link anywhere on any of the pages so is some script running that does this or...?

Why would someone want to do this?

That happened to one of my sites a while back. I noticed in Google Webmaster tools all the keywords that were used to get to my site were suddenly drug related.

Looking at the public html directory I found a whole host of files sitting in a www.mydomain.com/.sys/ directory that shouldn't have existed. THey were generating masses of pages hidden to me that were linking back to a set of drugs sites.

I fixed it by noting the dates of the files in this .sys directory, then seeing what other of my site files had been changed at that time.

I deleted the scripts, the .sys directory, and edited all the files that had been changed around that date - luckily there weren't many of them and it was easy to spot the inserted rogue code, which I just deleted.

Rough and ready, but worked for me.

Oh, and I changed all relevant passwords - Server, CMS, etc - before AND after I set to work, and took backups before I started...

  I changed all of my passwords. I didn't mention but they also hacked into my yahoo e-mail and started sending me SPAM from my own e-mail. This site is a blogger hosted site with custom domain so I don't know have access to those files....do i?
  
  I'm assuming this is going to hurt me in some way shape or form. I'm too much of a noob to know why tho.

  As long as you get things cleaned up quickly, you should be okay. Google will eventually crawl the site and may add it to the malware infected site list that they have. If they do that, you will have to go to google webmaster tools and ask them to rescan your site once it is clean
  
  Hmm..l if it is a blogger site they may have just added a redirect into your template. I would switch the template to a default template and see what happens.

  I picked blogger because I thought it would be more secure. I wrote my template myself and it took me so long I don't want to change it.
  
  I searched the template and compared it with an old one I backed up last month and they are identical. Very strange.
