Basic Steps To Increase PR

Hey everyone

I have recently just watched my site go from PR0 to PR3 in the last few months and I am not sure why.

Clearly my next step is to move toward PR4 and beyond.

I don't really know the importance of this but would love to know what my next steps should be to move on up.

Can anyone advise?

I think PR is irrelevant. You just need quality links that will bring you better SERPs that will lead to sales.

Pagerank is something to look into only if you are going to sell links.

Basically, keep getting high quality links from other websites. Preferably ones with decent domain authority in the search engines. Try to get linked from sites with Pagerank that is higher than yours.

PR is good, but not the real issue. You need to look at traffic and how much $$ you're making. Some sites I have that are PR0 outperform PR 2 sites easily.

I know of plenty of pr0 or 1 pages that are making tons of money and plenty pr 4 and higher that aren't even monetized. It all depends on what your goal is, obviously you want to make money since you are here.

Going to pr3 in just a few months is a very good sign you are doing something right.

Toolbar PR is often called Foolbar PR .Worry about conversion rates, ROI (return on investment), relevancy, or other metrics that actually correlate to meaningful gains for your website .

To answer the OP's question, PR is a measure of the quality of the backlinks pointing at your site.

If you want it to continue to increase, you need to add links from other pages with a high PR. The page you are getting the link from must be the one with the PR. The PR of the domain doesn't matter.

Also, you want the page you are getting the link from to have as few outgoing backlinks as possible. The PR that a page passes on through its links gets divided among all the outgoing backlinks. The more links on a page, the more worthless each link is. So those pages you see with 500 comments... Pretty much useless links.

As for the people who say PR of your domain doesn't matter, only rankings do... you are partially right. Obviously, there are tons of PR 0 and PR 1 pages ranking just fine. However, if you focus on your site structure and have a really good internal linking pattern setup, then the PR on your homepage, is only going to help the ranking of your individual pages.

          Cyoung,

It could have been due to the types of pages you were linking to/and or a Google Update?. I honestly don't know. But, I think you must've been doing something right as others have pointed out to go from PR 0 to PR 3. My suggestions are: maybe try changing up your keywords you're using on your site, or trying to find other pages with a high PR to link to. If you're wanting to increase sales however, I would try other methods to reach your goals as opposed to organic search, if, that's what you're doing however.
