    When you think about the amount of businesses paying $20 for an advertisement in every major city around the United States its easy to see why the generate a sizable amount of daily cash.

    Even then when they got their start they relied solely upon donations (if me memory serves me correct). Gives a whole new meaning to "brand awareness" when your a small site starting out.

    Doesn't Wikipedia stay alive solely because of being a donation station?!

    They are not charging in all major cities.

    I don't think they would jump in charging people for personal ads, that would just kill them specially with million other website totally free.
