0% conversion!! what's wrong with my website?

So far with one of my websites I've had 0% conversions and I would much much appreciate it if someone could tell me what the issue is.

it received about 30 visitors a day and according to analytics they stay on the website for around 2-3 minutes.
I've made a bit from adsense but no affiliate sales....

any advice or constructive criticism is welcomed

The site seems interesting for reviews, but I don't see any reason to buy. In fact, I don't even see anything that says "You can buy something bike-related here."

What are you selling, the bikes themselves?

Are you targeting buy keywords? You may be getting people who are at the beginning of their purchase cycle where they are simply gathering information. If you want conversions, you need to be hitting people when they are in buying mode.

People will generally enter the make/model of a product with a few buy keywords such as "Cheap bike model" etc. Maybe add some product pages with bike specs to your site that target those words. You can also link to the review pages on your site in case the person wants to get more info about. Or even embed the review into the product page.

I can see a BIG problem that should immediately help things.

When I landed on your homepage, if I clicked on any of the images of the bikes I was just taken to the url of that image. The same thing happened when I clicked on the 'Star Rating' images. Big NO NO. You need to change the links of those images so when someone clicks on them they are taken to the affiliate url for that bike.

The same goes inside your actual blog posts. Those bike images also do not link to the affiliate product but should.

I would also maybe get a nice big Amazon 'Add to Cart' button and insert that image into the top AND bottom of each post. Obviously you would link those images to the affiliate page as well. At the moment the links to Amazon are TINY and you can hardly even see them.

Those changes alone should help make a big difference.

I mentioned it clearly that they could purchase the bikes with the links located at the top and bottom of the review page :s

Theme is familiar, is that Matt Carter's affiliate theme? Anyway, you should have some sort of capture form to get email addresses of visitors. Maybe a sidebar optin or a splash optin. Remember it is rare for anyone to click on your review and buy the first time, so aim to start a good relationship before selling.

That's a good point. I once read it takes up to seven interactions with a brand before a person decides to make a purchase. So I agree that you should get some type of optin form on there. Even if it is a simple Feedburner subscribe for updates type of thing.

Actually Feedburner is a RSS management tool that was purchased by Google a few years ago. It helps you track how many people are subscribed to your RSS feed. The url is http://feedburner.google.com/.

The service also has a Subscribe by Email option that lets people get an email sent to them whenever you post a new article to your site. It's totally free but very limited in functionality.

I've never used Aweber, so I can't anything about it. I use Mailchimp and have been pretty happy with it.

I'm not an expert on this type of criteque. So please take this post in the spirit that it is given.

When I clicked your link, I arrived at what initially appears as a 'good' page.

Upon further perusal though, I found the front page postings to each have an almost identical beginning:

Today we take a look at the ....

Today we take a look at the ....

This week we look at the ......
I would like to have seen a more attractive beginning to each one.

On the upper left of the initial page there was an advert. In my case it was an ad for a bed mattress. That Dormeo Bedtime ad on the top left hardly matches the exhilaration of bike riding IMHO.

    Just my initial thoughts,

    Jeff.

The reviews are decent. i don't see any type of opt in page. Build a list of bike enthusiasts. Offer a "tips" e-book of some type to build a list. Offer a "tips" e-book of some type. Provide valuable information, then your customer will be more open to whatever you are pitching. The second womens bike is unavailable. Like kaniganJ said the Call to Action is looks week and unclear.

    It's probably your traffic.

Just some of my piece of suggestions

As @WillR mentioned above, all of the links must lead the visitors somewhere valuable. The image links are still going to the image itself. That's wasting of links...

Also you will need to focus on the buying keywords as @ArwenTaylor suggested. This is very critical for the review sites because your final goal is having the visitors to click the order button. If the visitors are simply looking for free information, they would just leave after getting the information they want.

In addition, you may want to have more obvious links on the main page for someone who wants to get the product, saying something like "Click here to find out the product..." etc.

Moreover, always do the split-test. Maybe create another page and list your product in a descending order so that the excellent product goes at the top and compare which works better.

  • Ask for the sale 7 different ways on a page. Our conversion rates are way high because of how aggressive we get. Popunders, lightbox popovers and 7 times on the page. Say your offer slightly different all over.

      Whoa...Where To Even Start!

After a minute or so spent on the site, I've already got a laundry list of fixes for you:

*As mentioned above, ALL images on the main page should be linked to either the affiliate link or the review itself, and all images in the individual reviews should be linked to the affiliate link.

*You need more call-to-action buttons. In-text links work GREAT. Don't just give people the option to click through; TELL THEM TO. Say things like:

Click Here Now To Buy the _______ Bike On Sale w/ FREE Shipping on Amazon.com!

Speaking of your links, "Available on Amazon for here" is not a call to action, nor is it grammatically correct. Fix it. In fact, while you're at it...

*Fix the grammar and spelling errors on all of your reviews. I'm noticing a lot, and believe me, fixing these will help with conversions. As it is, your site lacks trustworthiness. Would you buy from a site with as many spelling/grammar errors as yours? I wouldn't.

*Pre-sell! ALL of your reviews list some pros, some negatives and then summarize with something along the lines of "all in all, this bike is good, despite it's flaws..." or something along those lines....That is NOT going to make anyone want to buy, it makes even you, the reviewer seem unenthusiastic and not sure about the product.

If you recommend a bike, list the pros and cons, and then TELL THEM WHY THEY SHOULD BUY IT or tell them why they should buy another model (for which you of course have a review and affiliate link). You are MUCH better off picking a stance of either "Get this bike, it's awesome" or "don't get this bike, it's not as good as THIS one, check this one out". Either way, have a solid opinion. They WANT you to, which is why they are searching for reviews.

I have also have the problem of zero conversion. Usually the shopping cart server was down for a while and is later back up. However, that is not your case.

Fact is, you have a problem that is very serious. Where is the [BUY] button and the price? I do0 not see it anywhere. People are not psychics and do not what to guess. Also there is no 800 number for your company. Truly, this is very serious...

    Hey Nolan,

I'd lose the Adsense because you're essentially sending those clicks to your competitors.

The design is also a little bit bland and not really indicative of a site that takes bike reviews seriously. In other words, a better design could improve the instant credibility and do a better job of preselling the bikes.

    Good luck!

First off, 30 visitors a day is a very low number to expect conversions from. You need hundreds or even thousands to start seeing real numbers. Second, I'd be a little more aggressive in including links where people can buy the product. You seem to have them only at the very end of your reviews and many people may not get that far.

WILLR has given you some excellent advice.

In addition to those suggestions something that really jumped out at me, is you have hardly any text links within the body of your review and you will find the very best conversions will be from text links within the body of your review article that encourage your visitor to click through.

Use the advice above and add some text links within the body of your reviews and you should see an increase.

As also mentioned you also need to increase your traffic as what you have right now is very low.

    I have a quick tip:

Are there only 3 bikes you talk about on your whole website? Is there a way to see ALL the reviews on your website (if you have more than 3).

Okay, i just looked at every nook and cranny of your website and noticed that you do in fact have just 3 reviews, which is totally fine since that's as far as you've gotten so far.

As you continue, when you have more reviews, it would be cool if there was a page, maybe called "ALL BIKES" with just squares of pictures of the bikes with maybe their name underneath, and then when you click on the bike you like the look of, you get redirected to the review page for that bike. Just my opinion. Many people are visually oriented and I think a page like that on your website would look good and be user friendly. Other than that I like the look of your site.

I also agree with everyone else that the people who are coming to your site need to be ready to purchase something in that very visit in order for your page visits to be converting to sales.

    Good Luck!

And good luck with school too!

I haven't even read the other comments but I'm sure someone has said this.. The first mistake I see is you links say "Go to website here"..

Why would i want to go to another website there when I can see the bike on yours?

People want to be told what to do. You should use lines like "get this bike here, buy this bike here, get a great deal on this bike here, Get this bike NOW"

Best advise is to put yourself in the shoes of the person visiting your site. Would you be incised to buy just from seeing a "look at this website" link?

site looks nice and has some good potential. One thing I'll say tho, your going to need a lot more traffic than 30 hits a day. Are bikes hot selling items on Amazon? Traffic and the demand play a huge role in how man conversions you'll get...

Great site tho.. Best of luck...

I think the site is well made. The only thing I noticed that could be hurting is that your call to action isn't as clear. The links that point to amazon don't stand out. Like another poster said, try using Amazon's buy buttons on your site. Buttons really draw the attention towards the next step.

For my review sites, I have the Full Review there if they want it but I strive to get them to go to the merchant without even reading my whole review. I give them a large "Visit Site" button on the main page and the review page so I have two chances to get them.

Who is your target market, because this seems like general information. The reviews seem ok, and I like the concept of hybrid bikes, but maybe you need to position it to environmentally conscious and then have an email series about the power of bikes to reduce pollution or decide you are going for a different market and have a way to target that market more effectively.

Right now, it seems that you are on hit and miss approach with your reviews that do not target anyone. And the problem with hit and miss approach is that more than likely people do not have enough reason to hit your site up with the buy.

A good method for improving the conversion ratio of any site is to try and look at it from the point of view of one of your users.

Go through and write down any obstacles or objections you think a user is likely to have throughout the conversion funnel, be honest with yourself.

Doing this will give you a list of actionable things you can change which will make your site better for your visitors and help you achieve the conversion you want. Good Luck!
