Need Some Help Transferring Site Contents

I have just sold a website to a buyer and need some help with the transfer process. The buyer has his own domain name he wants to use with the site. He will be hosting the site on Bluehost and my hosting is through Hostgator.

I vaguely know how to transfer a domain and site to someone but still have issues trying to do it. Can anyone help me with what the differences will be when I'm moving a wordpress site to a different domain than the one I'm selling with the site? Would he need to install wordpress on his site and then I could just ftp the wp contents file to his site or is there more to it than that?

Any help would be appreciated. Or, if anyone is willing to do this cheaply let me know.

    A couple of things:

You will have to backup the database.

Ftp all the wordpress files to the new host
    Set up the database
Make sure the name and username for database is correct in the ws-config file

    Should work.

If the domain is sold with the site, you should also transfer that into his name. He will probably want to set up a re-direct to his new domain name as well.

Last year, I decided to move a number of my Wordpress blogs to new hosting, and this walked me through the process step by step.

EDIT: I can also put you in contact with a very reliable lady who (the last I heard),transfers WP blogs for just $10/each. I recommend her highly.

Can this person also transfer static sites to WP? If so, I'd really like her contact info.
        Thanks.

          Thanks.
I honestly don't know, but I'll ask her for you.

I do have an outsourced worker who, I know, does offer this service. His actual charge depends upon the volume of material to be transferred, but I know his fee starts at $99.

EDIT: To answer your question - no, she doesn't transfer static sites to WP...sorry

    Yes - it's very simple.

We've covered it many times in detail before.

The only other thing to bare in mind is if in the content/links of the site there are any absolute links to current pages. i.e if you're currently linking to www.currentdomain.com/page1 then the new owner will need to redirect that to a valid equivalent on their domain.

All the normal WP stuff is covered by copying the files and database.

    Good luck with it.
