I just got a request to put a banner ad on one of my sites and I have no idea what to charge. Can anyone give me some idea of what the going rate for a banner ad might be?
Thanks,
Marg

You question is like asking how much cars cost, without giving us details.

It varies obviously, based on niche, value, traffic, and your ability as a salesperson.

The niche is Christmas. The site has been getting over 1000 visitors a month and is #4 in Google searches for several terms related to the niche.

I would recommend you look at a marketplace that deals in selling and buying ad space and have a look at what the going rate is for a site that is getting roughly the same amount of traffic as yours.

Buysellads.com might be a good place to start.

      Kind regards

I'd say $5-$10 and it depends on the nature of your traffic - SE or referral?

It also depends on keywords you are reaching traffic with.

If you give the interested party a great price, you can secure them and offer for a more realistic, increased price as your traffic develops.

As a rough idea, you can ask for as much as you can earn if placing an adsense ad on that spot. If you haven't tried with adsense yet that's a different thing.
