Tip: How to determine a good web directory.

Hi gang,

some SEO veteran told me to search for a specific URL in Google using the site or cache operator, to verify whether the site is in Google's cache or not.

For example "site:www.coolwebdir.com" or "cache:www.coolwebdir.com"

If there is a cached Version of that site, it has some value. If not, it does not.

Thought i let you guys know this little trick...

How do you estimate whether it is worth the hassle to place a link in a directory?!

Best

If the directory charges you money, it's generally worth being a member. That's my "trick", anyway.

Almost every site (99%+) has some value but how to figure out how much is the value?

Well that's a different question. If the directory is indeed crawled by G, one indicator is of course the Page Rank. Though it is not a reliable stand alone indicator.

I also consider if the page has a category that fits my site's theme.
And if outgoing links are followed...
