You've just blown $200 on a soload and got over 100 opt ins- what next?

Imagine this:

You've just spent $200 on a soload - 500 clicks guaranteed
and made your first 100 opt ins but no sales yet.

Marketing budget spent. What would you do?

Would like your thoughts and feedback please.

lol ideally you had a low cost upsell to recoup some of that investment. Other than that, now you start following up, building a relationship, and over time, get them to buy from you.

I'd start pushing low cost, low commitment products to my 100 subscribers. Get my money back, then try it again with a better funnel/plan. I'd also start doing swaps to get free subs.

You can do swaps with 100 subscribers. Search for micro swaps in the JV forum - Warrior Joint Ventures

Post a new thread if you can't find one.

      Good Luck.

Try Ad swaps, sell solo and buy solo mailings at Safe-Swaps. You can start swapping with any amount on your list, big or small.

        Another echo...

        Safe-swaps

Seriously though - lots of folks at Safe Swaps with list the same size as yours. You can start swapping everyday if you like and hopefully make some sales of your OTO's along the way...

Start educating your list on why they need to use certain types of products... Then show them those products

My guess is that those 100 subscribers that opt-ed in have been hit so hard with emails the past 60 days that there's no point in even bothering trying to build a relationship.

          Just my guess, though.

Probably an accurate assumption. Flip side to that is they'd be refreshed by that experience, and would be even more receptive to relationship building.

I know you asked Dan, but this is what I've learnt -

(Some) Solo ad sellers tend to blast their lists with solo ad after solo ad. Same with swappers.

So subscribers on these lists will sign up to multiple lists in order to get freebies. This dilutes the message of any one marketer.

This is one major reason why I'm so careful when doing swaps/solos.

lol -- my bad. I misunderstood that and thought he meant the OP had blasted this particular list. And I couldn't find that info anywhere in the thread...

You should wait until you have a few hundred so its fair to other marketers doing the swap. 300 opt ins will be ok to swap for a marketer with 500. You can try with 100 and you might just find somebody that will bite but I suggest getting some more subscribers. My advice is to construct your auto responder messages to convey value.

Just imagine yourself on the other side as a subscriber for yourself. The person wants help solving their problem and giving them help in small bites without them having to pull out there wallet is best. Build a relationship with your list and give value. That is my 2 cents.

It's hard to say without knowing what niche the list is interested in.

See if you can find some PLR newsletters in your niche you can start sending to them. Or buy rights to a PLR ebook in your niche and break the chapters into newsletters (if permitted by the rights).

Of course, place some ads in the newsletters to affiliate products related to the niche.

you could always survey your small list and see who is interested in what....

    then sell it to them!

You can find plenty of good quality products that you can make 100% commission on at paygear or payspree and other sites.

Just start building a relationship with your list and look for others with small lists that are looking to swap and get building.

As mentioned above - get a decent funnel in place so that once you have more budget you can make a profit or at least a good ROI from any further solos you buy.

    good luck

Let me second this sentiment. Ask them what they want. Find out what they want to achieve and what's holding them back. Find the PAIN. Alleviate it. Pass go and collect $200,000. And yes, it really is that simple.

I also want to ditto the sales funnel comment. If you are selling as an affiliate, your funnel should be: Low cost front end product (of your own)=>complimentary (i mean related, not free) upsell=>12 week course teaching them how to do something or a series of things and sell them the tools to do it with. First you have to know what they want and what their pain is and what they perceive as the solution. (BTW - you can get affiliate upsell products from Upsell Marketplace or Upsell Network, something like that. I think it is one of Mike Filsame's sites.)

I would start off with a couple of emails that offer excellent content. This can be a link to a good video or a good tutorial. It can even be a motivational short that you compose that also lets them know what kind of person you are (build that rapport). If you want to pitch something at the end it's ok but keep it really lite at first, almost as if it's a "by the way" type of comment. You don't want to scare them off right away.

Big Take Away: You want them to stay on your list and trust you. Earn their trust and the best will follow.

I didn't read all of the replies so this might have been mentioned already.

The first thing I'd do is look closely at the ad copy of my solo. Maybe it sucked. eMail marketing is a specialty and few do it well. There is both art and mechanics involved in writing a successful email ad. Take that for what it's worth.

Another thing, before I went blasting out yet another ad to your new subscribers I'd take the opportunity to first 'get acquainted' with an intro message that included maybe a gift or some other "welcome" premium. The first rule of email marketing is to treat your subscribers like royalty. Most people treat them like marketing meat.

Success at marketing doesn't come by accident. It comes from knowing what you're doing and doing things well. People think that because they throw money at advertising they're just naturally going to make a buck. But it doesn't work that way.

Before you or anyone spends money on any type of advertising or marketing it would make sense to know what you're doing and how to do it. Good luck.

Melvin, building a relationship with people who've been swapped and solo'd is sometimes tough going, but that's what you've got to do.

Take some time to build your subscribers' trust. Remember to distinguish yourself from other marketers and try to get them to know who you are.

Definitely have an upsell - with solos and swaps I've found that a great converting upsell will recoup most of my costs. The recording at $19.95 is a bit steep for someone new to your list - a lot of these people will be newbies who want something cheap. For me, a $7 product has converted waaay better than even a $17 product. Plus, you are identifying more buyers, so your list segmentation is better if you pick a lower priced product.

    Hope that helps!

Webcore, that's so true. My very first list, I didn't have much of a plan, and had to create an autoresponder series in a rush!

I would've done much better if I'd created the series first and had it all ready and set to go before building my list....

If you bought a solo ad we must assume that the solo ad seller has sold many other solo ads as well.

Here's the thing.....The system is Rigged!

What I mean by that is: Would Amazon sell you a solo ad to their list so you could promote your stuff for only $200.

There's a sub market in the IM market that's been growing over the past few years called (I just made this name up) "Solo Swapper Profiteers"

These are NOT the type of solo ads that you want to buy unless you have an AMAZING backend with higher priced and lower priced products.

Those 100 subscribers you got are being pounded with hundreds of emails everyday, so while you're building a relationship with them, they won't even see your emails.

If you could see inside of their email account of the typical "list junkie", you would see 2056 emails in their inbox and 10,478 email in their SPAM folder.

This is why the Solo Swapper Profiteers sell solo ads and do swaps. They can make WAY MORE money selling solo ads then promoting to their own list.

I've been able to overcome this but it's because I have backend products that are $1k or more.

If you're selling $10 products, you will find it VERY difficult to make 20 $10 sales from a list of 100 swapped and solo'd email subscribers because they weren't truly "interested" in the first place. They're mostly just junkies.

There are a few other tricks besides having higher priced backend products, such as immediately connecting with them on places like facebook, etc...

Ok this post has been TOO LONG, I hope this helps.

To your success and God Bless.
