Youtube Cracking Down on Internet Marketers?

I had a short video on Youtube for a while now, and the last 15 seconds of the video had this text:

"Please visit ....... for more details

or simply click on the link next to the video ->"

Yesterday I noticed my video has been edited. The last 15 seconds of the video are now missing and the link in the description is gone. In fact the whole description of the video is gone...

Makes me wonder...

p.s. I have quite a few videos on different accounts that point to some sites, this is the only one that was affected so far.

Wow! If they ARE doing this, then it's going to drive more and more IM'ers to use alternatives!

Alex - wow - I didn't know that - have to go check some of my vids now too!

Did they still keep your description that included the link to the url?

I've only ever had once a video actually be 'taken down' (too commercial I guess) from youtube.

    cheers, Maria gudelis

I thought everyone did that? If there not allowing that anymore surely youtube is going the same way ebay went, i.e impossible for IMers.

From what I heard, Youtube might start charging people to promote their services and products. they have already started something about spotlight marketing or something like that where you pay a fee to be featured on the front page, something like adsense

I find it odd that they would bother editing someone's video instead of just removing it. Are you sure you didn't upload the wrong file, before you added the extra promotion bits on the end?

I can't see youtube getting out the video editing software to cut the end off files...

    Interesting indeed...

      Yes, I am sure.
I noticed because I was getting quite a few hits from the video (it has been life for months)... and all of the sudden I had no more traffic from Youtube... I was also surprised they edited the video instead of just deleting it. Also the "details" contained a URL and some text... they changed it to 3 dots... as in "..."

I guess this explains why I wasn't getting any more traffic from this video...

That's you-tubes loss, gives others a better chance to get more traffic via similar sites with less restrictions.

      So far mine look O.K.

I hope they don't crack down on the IM industry more than necessary.

The ability to market using certain methods rarely goes away...

It just moves to another part of the World Wide Web.

As far as the last 15 seconds disappearing... they wouldn't need editing software. I am sure their admin setup allows them to select a video and modify its features such as the display image, ending time, etc.

  • So as a Newbie then, I shouldn't get too excited about Video for Marketing my business? Bummer!

You can get excited about it... you just won't be able to use the spammy tactics that some folks employ when video marketing. Google owns YouTube now, so all the evolutions google.com went through, I am sure they will implement on YouTube.

You will still be able to market, it just more than likely won't be free.

Not sure about your description getting messed with but I did hear somewhere that Youtube automatically clips the end of videos if there is an excess of inactivity (ie silence...).

I've always kept my "visit here" tag at the end of videos to arround 10 seconds & never had a problem.

Perhaps you were drawing too much traffic away from
YouTube with your offer... and that set off warning
bells. I seriously doubt YouTube staff has a serious
high priority of eliminating all marketing videos - but they
may single-out ones that send a lot of traffic away,
    like yours.
