Monetize massive traffic on a game site?

Hey warriors,

I've just launched a new website about a new game that was launched. Without any off-site linkbuilding the traffic is massive: 1.500 unique visitors in 5 days.

Now here's the question: how can I monetize it? I've already tried advertising the strategy guide of the game, but that didn't work. Adsense doesn't bring in much anymore ever since Google decided to cut about 75% of the CPC on the Publishers end, so what does that leave me with?

I already considered ebooks, audiobooks or videotrainings, but dozens of sites are already offering that for free. Any other options?

Thanks!
Stealth:confused:

If you have so much traffic I suggest you sell banners. You can find clients on internet marketing websites like this one or others like it. Clients will pay you a monthly fee depending on the banner and agreement.
You can also find clients on specialised websites (in selling banners).

Try to bonded all traffic with your facebook fan page, twitter follower and mostly make a list. Make a ebook/guide about how to play that game smoothly. Try to sale that if you can or just giveaway that to build a targeted list.

Thanks for the responses! I have considered building the list, and it was my initial thought, but once I have a list I don't have anything to sell just yet.

Now I'm in the process of testing whether visitors will actually sign up to get the guide (just a combination of all my content into 1 PDF). I'll let you know!

Take a look at some of the cpa networks, I'm sure that some of the offers may fit your site.

    Hi Stealth,

a no-brainer, but anyway: What about getting affiliate commissions by selling games with Amazon partnerlinks.

A guide may be a little hard to monetize since gamers' interests are so diverse. Whereas some might only play PS3-racing games, others are only interested in adventures for Nintendo 3DS.

Regarding selling advertisement space: from my experience, you would need to increase the traffic further for advertisers to be interested in what you have to sell.

Excellent plan to sell other games via Amazon. I just created the widget to do so.

My site is about 1 game in particular: Skyrim. I could provide a guide to the game, but since every player plays it differently it's going to be difficult to compose a guide. Besides, I myself wouldn't purchase the guide and I am part of my target audience .

Was it an MMO or a Free Game? If it was a paid game I would have thought just affiliate selling the game on Amazon or something would pay out. I did something similar for big console games and made about 10-20 sales every once in a while when I get a game review post to get massive hits.

Yes it is a paid game (one time fee). It's an offline RPG. The people visiting my site pretty much all have the game. They're looking for information they can use in-game.

For videogaming niche the best advice I can do is joining some good CPA networks, always filled by cool offers.
Then, try to sell your banner space to commercial videogames sites: to make this you could place white banners with price and link to Paypal, or send some email to videogame seller (I suggest little shops or family shops who can take advantage from banners).

      See you soon!

      Thanks for your advice Alessandro!

Peerfly is one of the easiest cpa networks to get in
How does it work Melodeas. Do you have experience with the network? What are your results?

      Hello,

Have you tried offering the Collector's edition? You can get affiliate commissions selling this edition. If you love the game maybe you just need some little information about the collector's edition to buy it. I know some people (myself included) that have bought the collector's edition even after getting the normal one. Maybe it can work...!

      Cheers,

      Andre

You can easily find game related CPA offers and present
those offers onsite and to your targeted list.
Selling banner ads is also a good income source.

Stick a forum on it and build a community. Then sell it in a year or so when it's huge.

In my experience it's hard to monetize a game related site unless you have really massive traffic.
You could try to cash in on christmas with Amazon gaming related ads because of the possibility for cross selling that Amazon encourages ( so all purchases made by them on your 24 hour cookie will go to you regardless what they buy).
You can get lucky on flippa.com - if someone is on there with the cash and fantasies about being able to convert the traffic, you can get a suprising payout.

      Best of luck
      Rob

I would defnitely recommend both Amazon and Barnes and Nobles (through Linkshare). Maybe selling some ad space to some people on here too.
