Width for Salesletter for WSO

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the best size to make the width for the sales page when launching my first WSO.

I was also wondering if I could just make the salesletter on a subdirectory of one of my domains and pull it from there into the Forum for testing.

Thanks in advance for any help someone is willing to offer.

You can practice and play in the test forum.

Just don't put any payment buttons on the thread.

Thank you guys for the quick reply. This forum is so friendly and helpful.

I have been a buyer on here for over a year and I have been thinking of making my own for a month now.

Working on my first one now and will be ready in 2 weeks.

I've always thought it was 720 pixels wide.

720 will work, regardless, even if technically it may be a bit wider.

That's if you don't want it to look unnatural and go too far wide.

I always use 740 pixels in width and make the background color #f5f5f5 so it appears your sales letter was written on the actual page and not in an image. Also if the sales letter is going to be long, split it up into several images instead of 1 big long one.

And what do you use to write your sales letters? What software?

It is all done in Photoshop! I add images and text all into one big long psd file and once done cut it up into shorter length images for quicker load times.

First I thought Mike's 740 pixels width was correct and a safe value to use - but now I think that is not always correct.
The minimum width for user profiles seems to depend on the size of each chosen warrior name.
I just visited a thread started by TheViralMarketingSystem - and this long name restricts his sales page width to just 690 pixels.

So now I think you need to check the maximum width yourself - because your sales page maximum width will depend on the minimum width of your personal profile

I wrote my last salesletter in an html editor, uploaded it, took a screenshot and then linked to the screenshot image. I've been wondering how other people do it! (And yeah, I matched the background in my editor and used 700 px width to be safe_

Yep, exactly, the maximum width I use with graphics and a sales letter is 775px

Point being, can't go larger than that. Anything up to and less would work great. If your good at formatting text you can even make a salesletter that wide......... it's all about placement...

        Minimum would be probably 675px

775px would be too wide and stretch the posting area out to the right in most cases. The actual width of the posting area is 760px so it would be advisable to keep it under that.

Not at all, I've done it numerous times, it never stretches it out.... check my links below, the width of many of the images are 775px

That's why I said "it stretches it out to the right in most cases".

In your case, the user information area shrinks as the post area stretches to the left to accommodate.

Take a screenshot of this thread (with no images) and one of yours and see the difference.

If you go right to the edge of the posting area it is 760px. I like to use 740px as I like to leave 10px each side.

      Hi, Brian -

      This:
to act upon (someone or something) with or as with a compelling or magical force: to charm a bird from a tree.
a trait or feature imparting this power.

That's cool I always thought the area would expand. The ones who expand must be really wide then.

The ones that make the posting area expand to the right and make the forum look ugly is usually when an image of 800px or above is posted.

Wow, great thread! Really appreciate the explanation of the widths and the background color. I wish I had found this *before* doing my first WSO.

My image is 937 wide, and while it fits, it looks poor. Oh Well, the first WSO was a great learning experience for me (and all I expected for it to be).

And here is a good example of what not to do:

Yep, about 740 would be perfect. As Mike showed above, you can increase to a certain extent and it'll just increase the post. After certain pixels though, it starts to look bad (when it adds a vertical scrollbar!)

I think it's better for you to post a WSO after you hit 100 posts or more in order to build enough presence in this forum and you will get good results.

    Good Luck.

Why make it wider than the actual content area width which is only 760? Anywhere between 720 and 750 would be an ideal size.

If this is your first WSO, I would go to the "Classifieds" section of this forum and get some professional graphics help. Most of the prices that I have seen is reasonable and they do this all the time... so you can most likely get some pointers there.

      LOL, I thought we had.

Anyway, the test forum has been officially locked up to where you really only can see your own posts (well for me at least).

You could even put your payment buttons in there as I don't know how anyone would be able to buy from you - so I change my original thought on that.

Should be?! They can be anything the user feels is necessary as long as it doesn't go any wider than 760. How many times do I have to say it?!

"As long as?!" They can certainly go wider than 760 if they deem it "necessary" (to use your own words).

Maybe you can say it one more time, or two, or three?

760 IS OK for WillR, Mike Baker and NateSimms - because their Warrior names are short.

760 is just TOO wide for Sushiman1111 - if my ruler is correct 758 is his limit.

690 is the maximum for TheViralMarketingSystem

    Interesting thread,

I have always aimed for 700 px but going to up that to 750 px now.

I found out the hard way as I created a thread with an image that was 1200 px wide and you had to scroll to see the content = not good!

I haven't yet run a WSO, but I received some advice early on about shortening the width of the sales page text on one of my sites and - upon testing - that did provide a modest increase in sales. So going a little narrower than what everyone is recommending might be something to think about.

You mean having a padding down each side of your text -- yes, that definitely helps. I hate nothing more than trying to read a salespage that runs the text almost to the border. But regardless of the padding, your images will still want to be around 750 pixels wide. You then format the text however you like in those images.
