Lighter colors = better sales?

I have a few websites from the same niche going with different landing pages as well as others and it seems the darker (in color) don't seem to do as well as the lighter colored ones...

Looks like the next logical step will be to lighten the color on the non performers and see if they pick up.

Anyone else experience this?

    Hi,

Personally, lighter pages make me happier and I buy from them easier. Also whenever I set up a blog I look for the bright colors and not the earthy brown dark tones.

Maybe not quite what you were asking but I hope it helps.

Also, offline, when I was making sites for people they always chose the lighter brighter designs.

In Ryan Deiss' 43 split tests - he's offering it up for free - he does mention one test of the robins egg blue color performing better under split tests...

His report is really interesting - I'm sure if you google it you will find it!

    cheers, m

Thanks for that, I'll look it up.

George I think you hit the nail on the head people are more inclined to buy or click through rather than click back if they feel it's a friendlier 'feeling' place ...

Don't assume any particular market will or won't do X, Y or Z because a few people say it, or even if you "feel" it.

Test it, period. Even an A/B split test is better than nothing. (Taguchi if you can.)

You work so hard at getting traffic, so make sure you convert as much as possible by tracking the results. A small increase in conversion can increase exponentially as you ramp up traffic.

    My 3 cents.

Troy, that is so true. I have one ebook site that i test between google and yahoo ppc. When I see one starting to do better on google I move the changes to yahoo and make the next change on the google landing page.

Test Test Test then when your finished test some more

Google Website Optimizer (inside of Adwords) also offers a split testing option.
