Happy Thanksgiving guys! Quick question.
We are harvesting emails on our opt in page but
people aren't confirming when they get the confirmation
email. Any idea on how to get them to click to confirm?

They also don't get their freebie ebooks until they confirm.

We could use some advice to increase double opt in conversion.

What specifically are you doing at the moment in your
    opt-in process?

What's the opt-in page and offer?

    What's the traffic source?

What are you using on the page immediately after they
    complete the form?

What text is in your current e-mail that asks them to
    confirm?

I need to know more about your current process before
I can give you any useful advice on how to improve it.

What specifically are you doing at the moment in your
opt-in process?-asking them to sign up for two freebies.

What's the opt-in page and offer?-Glucalite.com/Glucalite-diet for an ebook and blood glucose chart.

What's the traffic source?-joint venture and referral traffic to the signal page.

What are you using on the page immediately after they
complete the form?-a sign up confirmation page asking them to watch for the confirmation email.

What text is in your current e-mail that asks them to
confirm?-a thank u with instructions to sign up and that they will get their download link in he next email.

Thanks Shaun. I hope this clarifies.

Yes single optin is compliant which is why Aweber offer it as an option.

        Thanks for the further details.

I took a deeper look into your sign-up process to get
a better idea of what you're currently doing.

It appears that you're using a self-hosted autoresponder.
Have you got your e-mail server set-up correctly so that
it sends out your e-mails and handles bounces etc?

The reason I ask is that this will affect the deliverability
of all your e-mails - including your confirmation e-mails.

The photos on the site suggest that you may be targeting
people in the 50+ range. Do they even know what it means
to 'confirm their e-mail?' You may need to spell it out to them
more clearly than your current text. E.g. using screeenshots
        or a video screencast.

I'd consider taking the graphic header off the confirmation
page and have a simple headline with the instruction to
'Go to Your E-mail Now to Confirm Your Subscription'

Beneath that, I'd place a screenshot of the e-mail they're
looking for in their inbox together with a big arrow pointing
at the link you want them to click.

And make sure your e-mail gives them clear instructions on
what you want them to do: click on the link to get their
        bonuses.

That's what I'd do anyways if you're wanting to increase
        your confirmation rates further.

        Dedicated to mutual success,

Tell people to whitelist your email address and to look in their spam folder for your confirmation email.

Remind them that they must confirm to get their freebie.

Hi Paul- In some cases subscribers become lazy to open their email just to verify and download the ebook lol

Give them some time and they will do what you want them to do soon

Harvested emails should be used in some bulk mail softwares.People don't confirm emails that they didn't sign up.

ermmm... harvesting emails on their opt-in page - I think you missed that!

I don't do double optin anymore and I know a lot of marketers are the same. Single optin is fine in most cases just make sure you remind them where they opted in and who you are!

We are double opting. Maybe the confirmation email is showing up in their spam.

Is single opt in can spam compliant?

A self-hosted AR has issues that most commercial ARs don't have. If people aren't confirming, then they are most likely not getting your mails. Is your server set up properly?

This is one of the major reasons I encourage people to stick with single opt-in. It's perfectly can-spam-compatible. Also, as posters above me have said, spell out very clearly what they need to do next. I've noticed aweber these days has a short video showing how to confirm your sign up. Or switch over to single opt-in

Actually, it's quite the opposite. Third party AR's have issues which are 100% beyond your control. Self hosted AR's allow a person with the proper resources to steer clear of a number of the headaches a 3rd party service can cause such as bad neighbors, the omg I've been banned issue and my favorite currently playing at Aweber, "We are working on our sub-standard delivery", which to Awebers credit they are addressing the issue due to both bad neighbors and draconian ESP's.

His server is RFC compliant and I tested his confirmation process, his email dropped right to my inbox and I confirmed and received the receipt of confirmation. I personally think it's a question that he needs to incentivize the confirmation process, or ditch double optin. You have to make them click that confirm link like it was crack and if you don't present it as crack then they will go meh and get back to playing Farmville cause people are cud chewing cows.

Here is an example of how I have used double opt-in while also increasing the confirmation rate...

One More Step To Get Free Report | Viral PDF Secrets | Viral-PDF.com

As you can see - the video pretty much pretends like the person watching it has no idea how to do any of these things... I also include easy links for them to the most popular email provider so all they have to do is click to go login to their email...

This is has seen confirmation rates around 80% - I figure part of the 20% not confirming are fake and some of them are just blocking my autoresponder (comcast is one of the worst)...

Now, buyers lists I tend to favor single optin to make the purchase seamless...

    hope this helps...
