I have, in the past, paid $360 for an ebook from a warrior. I thought that it was well worth it. I needed it written fast and had run out of time.
Since then (2 years) I have sold 100's of copies so the money was well spent.
For certain topics you would need to pay a lot more.
I would expect today to pay around $500 for the same ebook. (Unless you are a writer I'm about to commision)

The answer you will get from other writers, including myself, is it depends. For complete work, revisions and editing, you can look from between $8 and $25 a page. I will not post my rate here only a general review. Please send me a message or visit the links in my signature if you would like more info on specific rates.

A good average would tend to be around $10 to $15 per page for a good quality writer.

Is this sort of a "How long is a piece of string" question.

I guess there is no fixed price. Much will depend on time and effort involved, and the knowledge and advice the GWriter has.

I guess you never can tell what you will end up with until it is perhaps too late.

Looks like a test and try, test and try.

I agree with Tricerra's estimate. Somewhere in the $10-15 dollar a page range. Of course, I have never moved out of charging low end pricing so I might be off. Just know that you get what you pay for.

There's also the question of how many words/page! Some writers' calculate the price for about 250 words/page, and others for 450/page.

      Mostly it's closer to 250 words/page/

I'd always clarify those things before you order. In fact, most people I know order ebooks by word count.

I agree that you need to make sure that you know exactly what is included. I am a ghostwriter, but I once needed to hire someone for an overflow ebook job that I had. I put up a job posting and got so many different proposals. Some people were only going to do 250 words per page (meaning bigger font and smaller pages), some were including graphics to make the book longer, some were adding mostly written content....

For me, I normally end up at about 450-550 words per page on full size paper, but others may charge the same rate as me for WAY less words in total.

I also factor in how much research the person needs for me to do vs. what they will provide. Will they provide a TOC or outline? Will they give me resources to use? Do they want ebook formatting? Graphics? Etc.....

Just be clear about what you want, give a general range and ask for bids on Elance or one of the other freelancing sites.

I took advantage of a warrior deal last week and I was really happy with the work. I used The Write Thing Content Service. I think the standard rate is $8 per page for them, but they have a special deal under warriors for hire. For less than $400 I got a well researched and written 50 page ebook which was nicely formatted and ready to sell, a press release, 10 page bonus report to give out on my ebook website and they sales page writing so you can just upload it to your website or whatever. it only took 3 days to have my order completed. like i said, i was really happy with the service. i'm glad I found them because I almost went with another company from here offering the same thing for over $900. I have noticed that the rates really vary from company to company, but I think that some people are in this business for bigger profits than others. hope that helps!

Personally, I'd be looking at about $15-$20 per page for that kind of work, depending on the niche. There are certain niches that I've done so much writing in that I might cut a small discount because I wouldn't have to do as much research.

As long as you have a good, detailed outline (in the form of questions you want answered or steps you want included), you can outsource this as a series of articles and do it for less. You can often get a 2-3 page article done for $10 meaning your ebook would come in at between $250 done this way.

You do want to be careful when you choose your writer - make sure:

      1. They know you want quality content and not articles stuffed with keywords for SEO
      2. Be specific the questions you want answered or tips you want included in each project
      3. Post them as separate article projects or in groups of 3-5 articles
      4. Check their past writing.

Typically I would find 1 in 10 that had the quality I was looking for, once you find them you can go back again and again though.

In my experience - most experienced writers quote you per word on ebooks or base their bid on that calculation.

For example, on a topic where I have some knowledge and the buyer supplies a basic chapter outline or samples or list of research sites, references...the charge might be 5-8 cents per word.

For an ebook where I do everything from research to organization, etc - it could be 10-15 cents per word. In a decently formatted ebook most pages of text will be 250-300 words per page.

Another alternative I've used is a buyer who pays me per hour for an "up to XX hours" of research on a niche and then pays for the writing of the ebook separately.

I guess it depends on the quality of the work provided by ghost writers. $15-$20 per page will be ideal. Again, how many words will be there in the page also matter. Better charge per word. $5 per 100 word articles will be ideal but that must be to your satisfaction. I charge $15-$20 per 500 word article.

How about 1c per word? Just for the text that seems a good price. I've heard of some that are willing to make it for that price + $ for the graphics.

We charge (non-warrior discount) $0.02 per word. Average is 400 words per page with formatting. While generally, yes, companies charge "per word" it is a rounding up factor. If you want a 50-page ebook there may not be 400 words on every page... like the page that ends a chapter before a new one starts might only have 300 or something. most compainies, including us, will do the research, plotting, writing, ect and include the cover page, graphics, table of contents and disclaimer for whatever the total price is. A project like you are describing through us is approximately $400. I would say that what many people have already said is correct - compare companies and compare the work. It also really depends on the topic. obviously something that is harder to research will be charged more for.

I'm bumping this because so many of you have experience, and I don't. I'm starting my first ebook and have no clue where to start. Are graphics standard to include in it? Should I do the cover, how the heck do you accomplish that? Software? Treading in uncharted waters here and looking for advice. I'm great with content, but everything else I'm lost!

The best way to know what you want as a client is to make a list of everything you require from the book.
As a writer myself, I have a list of questions I always ask and that does include number of words, rough number of pages wanted, any deadline (as a tight deadline pushes the price up) and so the list goes on.

If you ask 10 writers, you will get 10 answers. So take your time and if unsure, get a writer to do an article or two for you as a test to see what they're like (paid of course).

Thanks for the response. I am the writer in this case. I've been offered a a job to write a 10,000 word ebook and have no clue what to charge. Normally I work at an hourly rate of $25/hr and the client knows this, so I don't want to lowball, because I have no clue how much time the research takes to do a book with this being my first...
