Would be interested to see what you warriors think is the best out there. Specifically, one that is NOT thousands of dollars

Thanks guys,

    Hi Chris

I use xheader at (xheader.com) all the time ..... it is awesome and it is FREE!
The free version comes with 500 high quality header templates (and they are good quality) but there is also a built in header maker with the ability to add text and text effects, upload your own images, create a blank header etc

Go to the site and signup for a trial. it is not a time limited trial. You will then download the software including the templates to your desktop where you can use it for ever more

There is an upgrade for $47 but as far as I can tell it the software stays the same ... just tonnes more header templates (which would be great if you were doing this commercially)

      Thanks 123andyt for the recommendation.

      Just a heads up,

I just downloaded the free version.

After you give your email address for the free version, It gives you an option to purchase the software at a discount for $37 (It says there's a one-time chance to buy).

I'm not afilliated with them at all, just thought I would prepare anyone who was on the fence about it.

      Joe

      Quick Update:

I just checked my email and there is still yet a chance to purchase it at a $10 discount so you can try it first before deciding.

Just to be clear .. the software and 500 header templates are actually FREE... the $37 is to get thousands of header templates .....

My headers are not graphically intense, but I have had success with AAAlogo.

Chris, I use Photoshop, but that is not cheap, and it has a bit of a learning curve. Actually it is more like a learning cliff!

Have you tried the free GIMP Photoshop clone. It's really quite good, and the price is right.

Another one to look at is Adobe's PhotoDeluxe. It works well for designing book covers, and should be able to do headers easily.

    Hi Chrisnegro,

You can also try Paint Net. It's free and works like photoshop as well.

Another vote for Xheader. It is quick and easy to use, and you don't need to spend any money. I've never purchased the extra headers, I make my own and include a stock photo from Dreamstime if I want an image in it.

    These guys are pretty good:
    Marketing Graphics Toolkit V3

At first it looks a little tricky to use their tools, but they offer video training and you can get some amazing effects once you find your way around it. Think it was only about 10 bucks as well, so not too expensive.

Xheader (Free Version) is good for the basic header background and then I "pretty it up" and add text using Gimp. Real professional results. Works a treat.

    Cheers

      i like it..

I think using Photoshop or other graphic software is much better than using the header maker, because the header maker usually limit our creativity, as only adds background, text, insert images, many of which can not be compared using graphic design software like Photoshop and such..
