    • My thought is that this is only pertinent for organizations who are credible and have authority. The Forbes article said as much:

Branded news and information sites like Forbes.com, with credibility, original content and a solid page ranking, now benefit from the one-two punch delivered by two ferocious competitors.

Realistically, few if any of us have the reach of Forbes.com.

Just because we are not Forbes does not mean we can not replicate their efforts.with a smaller surge.

I agree with Fluffly - on an universal level the advice is wise but then again most pages of warrior Forum are filled with advice that is good and wise - yet putting it to use is what counts.

I hear what you guys are saying but you're missing the point. The point of sharing high quality content is to get your brain thinking. Small thinking is what keeps you small...not life circumstances.

The reality is that even if you couldn't get 250,000 views (which is a number in the article not a guarantee of results) you could easily get 2,500 visitors using the same strategy.

I'm working on a new business that is using a VERY similar strategy (different mechanics...same idea) to get to $500 a day in revenue.

        So I know it's real...

    • There's a lot of wishful thinking when it comes to viral marketing. Here's a handy page that explains why your posts don't go viral:

Why That Great Post Didn’t Go Viral - Exploit Online Demand

It points out that you need to have influencers reading your stuff regularly. You can have a huge list and still not connect with anyone who has a big sphere of influence.

From my experience, there are other reasons IMers don't get viral velocity for their posts. One is so many IM blogs are "Follow me on my IM journey!" No one cares about you. (Sorry.) These blogs are just thinly-veiled affiliate sites anyway and people know it.

Another reason is that you're selling. No one longs to be sold. You may get a buyer who takes a chance on your product but are they going to tell all their friends? Nope. Hoping for that is Fantasyland.

Write about other people. Be entertaining, be informative or be entertainingly informative if you want your post to go viral.

    Brad:

    Great subject!

I just got reading an article about how to make things go viral and there's 2 things I remember:

    1. Make it extremely useful/helpful - if there is a page jam packed with "answers," tweet it or encourage sharing. You can bet that when someone says, "wow," they will spread it.

    2. Create emotions - I don't know about you, but when I watch a video with a sad story or funny story (or some other emotional response), I like to share it.

Those are two simple things to focus on when trying to make something go viral.

Fascinating article (thanks for sharing, Brad), and I agree that regardless of where you are at with your site development/popularity, there are some interesting insights to be gleaned from this one. Discounting the relevance instantly isn't the best approach in my humble opinion.

Does this article contain the secret to push-button viral mastery?? (lol)

NO - but it's still interesting to learn about this stuff from a wide range of sources.

      Just my 2 cents
