A World Without Marketing

Doing this internet marketing stuff has made me realize how much time/money is "wasted" in marketing.

Imagine if everyone somehow automatically knew which product was best for them. All the money spent on marketing could go then into research and development.

I think we are getting closer to that as technology advances. More product information is being spread by word of mouth now than ever before, with cell-phones, forums, review sites (like amazon.com), etc...

This is making it easier for companies with small advertising budgets, but good products, to compete with global industry leaders.

Am I outside of my mind if I think a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing this concept would be a great benefit humanity?

Perhaps create a cell-phone software that would have some type of amazon.com reviews functionality. Anyone with a cell phone number can write a review, and everyone can vote on whether or not a review is helpful. You could access reviews sort of like how google maps works through texts. If you text "google" something like "directions from 123 fake st, san diego, CA to 456 real st, new york, NY" google will text you back directions. Or if you text "google" the phrase "translate buenos dias from spanish to english" it will text you back the English translation. What if you could text someone "review **** berry pills" and it would text you back the top rated reviews.

I know that would only affect marketing by a very very small %, but if enough things like this existed, would it make people focus more on creating good products/providing more value, and less on trying to market "****"?
