I Think I've been scammed....

Howdy,

Now and then I freelance on Odesk to build up my Folio & Get some extra cash. So , I took this fixed paid job for $100. All it was to get 5k of PR3+ Blogs and 5k of Pligg sites. So , I started it and delivered my Blogs on the day I promised. He came back to me , saying there is "Some Duplicate" I was shocked as I had double checked this in Scrapebox , but I sent a message back ; saying if you wanted unique domains you should of said at the start.

Anyway , He hasn't contacted me back yet. Plus I've also delivered the Pligg sites. I got a $10 up front payment (10%) , He hasn't replied in about 4 days. But usually he get's back to me within Hours.

    If I may say so, you scuppered yourself by telling the client that if they wanted unique domains they should have said so at the start. I would have thought that was implicit in the request. To me, finding 5k blogs means finding 5k blogs, not finding (for example ) 2.5k blogs twice.

    You should have eaten some metaphorical humble pie and asked him to point out the duplicates so that you could have replaced them with the same number of original sites.

    Giving the client a cheeky reply isn't guaranteed to make him feel you are a reputable supplier.

      Usually , it's just unique URL's not domains. How am I supposed to know? I just did what I normally do.

      I've been stiffed by clients before, and I know it sucks. I agree with rosetrees that it's better to be humble and cooperative about the duplicate issue, at least at this stage, even if the client wasn't clear--it's the professional thing to do. It sounds like a small disagreement and you don't want to be perceived as being difficult to work with. Try writing back again and offering to work things out. If you still don't get a reply, you could consider continuing to follow up (do a search for "dunning letters") or just let it go. For $90, it may not be worth the time it takes to dispute it and chase down the money. Unfortunately, that's the downside to small gigs like that--people are more likely to take advantage of the contractor since they know they'll probably decide to write it off.

    Well, "the milk has spilled" and you can't undo it. Thus, your only option is move forward. You can "right" this by try contacting him and tell him it was your fault for not getting the full instructions before starting the project. Tell him you made a dumb mistake and will correct it by getting the unique URL blogs. The other option is not pursue this any more and be prepared for a bad review.

    It's a holiday weekend so don't jump to any conclusions just yet. If it does end up being a problem, any issues like this would be looked into by odesk.

      That's true , but he's in the UK & So am I. So , I don't see that as a problem. I'm going to give till Tuesday , that's fair. I doubt I'll ever see the money. Just annoy's me , lesson learnt. Never take up fixed paid jobs.

      I'll take your advice and offer something for free.

    You may have been scammed and I think you're justified for being upset. You didn't say they would all be unique and you actually tried to ensure that anyways. Also, I wouldn't jump to conclusions over a long weekend. There's a good chance he's just with family.

    Other than that, it does suck. Don't get discouraged. There are other clients out there so just keep your chin up.

    I would wait until next week. If you do not hear from him contact him one more time. If no response contact odesk and they will create a ticket and contact the business owner for you to resolve.
