Switching from static HTML to Wordpress, Bounce rated DOUBLED? Any ideas?

Hey,

I just switched an old site from static html pages over to Wordpress.

Bounce rates more then doubled.

The only difference in appearance is I added a social sharing plugin at the bottom of the pages.

Speed tests show that the speed is adequate. I've setup W3 total cache on the site. It should be close the the HTML load speeds.

I can't think what else would cause bounce rates to double.

Anyone else seen anything like this?

Any ideas what might be the culprit?

I have never seen that solely from switching to WordPress - what are you tracking the bounce rate with? Google Analytics? Which page are most bouncing from, the homepage?

Is is possible that the GA code is installed incorrectly?

Yes we are tracking with google analytics. GA code check out. Bounces increased across the board.

The only thing I can imagine is some kind of server load time, or server errors that aren't showing on this end??

    Any other ideas?

If your website loading time causing that problem you can try some plugins like WP Total Cache and enable Cloudfare on your domain.

We did install W3 total cache. I've run the speed metrics. They seem to be okay.

    Two things spring to mind...

    1) WordPress gets a lot of spider, bot, ping and search engine love. Could be that since you've switched those factors are influencing your stats. (Untargeted people and bots now finding your site for the first time)

    2) I forgot the second thing while I was typing that. Haha! Will post here again if I remember it.

As we know that Wordpress is mainly used for blogging site and it's easy to set auto comment in wordpress blog By SEO For a targeted keyword..so whenever we get an auto comment our Bounce rate would be 100%..For stop auto comment you can use AKISMET plugin in wordpress..so Google analytics show actual bounce rate..

Have you checked your site speed? It's likely to be slower unless you have optimised your wp instal, of course.
