So I'm about to set up an afilliate program...

I'm currently using Digiresults as my payment processor, that's all fine and dandy. Making a couple sales a day, nothing too spectacular yet.

I know digiresults allows affiliates, and I have a fairly steady stream of affiliate requests. Digiresults warns against potentially dangerous affiliates and I'd like to know what sort of dangers are out there?

I would imagine there are some illegal things such as:
  • Trademark infringement
  • ToS violations on other sites
  • Anything else?

    something way more basic Ronny

There has been an issue with people signing up as affiliates using yahoo and other email addresses and then processing refunds - result - you lose cash.

So be careful who you accept as an affiliate - a quick email to those seeking to promote your offers usually helps to get rid of some of the more obvious scam artists as they dont respond.

A lot of affiliates still use spam to market their links. They send out junk emails, use software to blast to forums and basically make a real nuisance of themselves. So they'll be putting your business name on all their spam and it won't take long before YOU are tarnished with the spam brush.
Also, they can get you shut down. If there's enough complaints and they all lead back to your website, your hosting company may pull the plug on you.
There's also a risk with your own ISP, as many of the spam emails are designed to look as though they originated from you. Likewise with getting your host domain URL blocked by major routers and ISP's. So genuine business email sent from or to 'sales @ yourbusinessaddress .com could end up getting filtered.

Then there are all the illegal misrepresentations of your products (pray you're not in the vitamin supplement business), trademark infringement and so on. Many will steal your banners and texts when they jump-ship to the next program. It can be a real cesspit.
I've been on the receiving end of some of this and it's no fun.

    Good luck.

I don't think so. The carders (scammers) are smart enough to reply to such emails in a very proper way. In other words, they won't ignore you and will do everything they can to look legit. It's a part of their "business".
