Changing content slightly for Article Directories

I have written a few articles that are targeted towards the readers of my site. I would like to adapt these articles and utilize a good majority of the content for my article directory submissions. Is this a good practice? Have others done this?

Basically, my article is on 6 simple steps to choosing _______. Now the article on my site references how to utilize my site for choosing ______, while the article that I would be submitting would need to speak in more general terms and then reference my site at the end of the article.

For those who utilize article directories regularly, are these slight rewrites something that you do? Do you find them effective? Is there anything wrong with doing this?

Thanks for your input.

    It's not a necessary practice.

Unless of course there's something about the content of the article itself that makes it necessary (which may be what you're thinking?).

Yes ... huge numbers of people. Countless people. I think some "just prefer it" and some get confused between "duplicate content" and "syndicated content" and mistakenly imagine that they're getting some kind of SEO benefit by doing that.

Nothing I can see. As long as you appreciate how article directories work, and know not to let your potential customer traffic find an article directory article, in preference to an article on your own site, via a search engine: that really does have a downside, and a big one. But other than that, no.
