And I did actually say that, and I thought it was implicit in the OP since he didn't specify action. Of course action has to be taken, but all other things being equal, someone with a better education is more likely to make a better income. There are heaps of studies that correlate level of education with income, not just individually, but socially. Social units (nations, towns, and families) with a high average education also tend to have higher average incomes and/or standards of living.

This is so very true. You learn from your mistakes and when you learn from it you don't make the same mistake so you earn more money. Because in learning you understood your work then it is easy for you to earn money more.

Through observation I have often seen the opposite to be true. I know of some very knowledgeable people that are addicted to learning and they never take action. On the flip side, I do believe that you should apply yourself to learning prior to setting out but there seems to be a healthy balance.

Learning is the easy part. In this country we have a lot of smart educated people, but all of them don't earn large sums of money. So, the correct statement is the more you learn to relax while you work, the more you will earn.
It has been my experience to stay calm in this business is the best way to move forward. Everything else will cause stress. Jimmy. |

It's always good to learn but if you just learn something and do absolutely nothing with it, what good is it? As many have said above...take action on what you learn and you'll do fine!
Another thing is don't try to take action on everything at once, stay focused on one thing at a time then go to the next when you are successful at the one thing you have focused on. |

Because the best way to learn is from personal experience and because we're talking about learning how to build a business the quotation "The More You Learn The More You Earn" is correct.
I wouldn't trade all the things I've learned both intellectually and from experience (because one influences the other) for all the tea in China. For me taking action is equally important as gathering sufficient knowledge and educating myself. There's no point taking massive steps if your ladder is learning against the wrong wall. |

Howdy Ryanmacca,
I agree if the following is added... If what you learn is something others are willing to pay for, you take action and apply your knowledge, and you have an effective means of delivery. |

You should learn things that others are willing to pay for. Then charge them to teach them about it.

Not convinced. Heard of "paralysis of analysis"? I soeasily fall into the trap of "the grass (and the dollars) are greener on the other side of the fence aka new coursem ebook, product, whatever."
Maybe it's a case of the more you acknowledge what you've learned, the more you earn? |

'learning' has to be tempered with action. You can read a book about flying a plane, but if all you ever do is read book after book, you still dont know how to fly a plane, just read a book. Its like swimming, i can tell you how to swim, you can see movies how to swim, you can spend months studdying swimming techniques. But until you get your butt wet, you wont know how to swim.

I agree with the application quote. If you know how to make 7-figures but dont do anything, whats the point? You have to learn and apply what you learn asap. It's like Eben said in altitude, the common trait of the most successful salespeople is speed of implementation on whatever they learn.

Well you have to learn before you can earn, but you can learn all day and as a result get nothing done so earn little to nothing.
Yet you could learn the basics things that work, then work at them all day long, and earn a lot. Although the statement could be said to be true, not as true as "The more you work, the more you earn". |

In the case of say, an anesthesiologist, I'd agree. But it's more contingent on action than knowledge.
Getting "lucky" means you were in a lot of places to be in the "right place at the right time". That takes work. |

“He who loves practice without theory is like the sailor who boards ship without a rudder and compass and never knows where he may cast.”
"Leonardo Da Vinci" Much on my day is invested in 'learning', though my focus on learning is in the 'understanding' part and that involves practice. What I do personally is first I read all I can about a subject, creating associations inside my head, making sense of it all, the big picture. I continuously examine what are the key factors for success in the chosen area and according to my Definite Chief Aim I focus on the ones that make a natural fit with me, the one's that 'feel' fine. Then it all falls into place, without wondering 'Am I missing something' and I get to a point where I can make congruent, massive action. Then the process gets repeated again, based on feedback. I will make a translation of a quote of a spanish philosopher and writer that is my northern star in my personal philosophy of action: "There are three types of men: The ones who first think and then act, these are the prudent; the ones who act before thinking, these are the impulsive; the ones who act and think at the same time they are doing what they're thinking, These are the strong." I agree that the more you learn the more you could earn if you put some action to what you have learned. Many people seem to learn and then learn some more and never do anything with it. As I am learning this business I have to make myself do something with what I have learned and not wait until I learn even more.

my 2c :
learn while you earn ... by taking action you'll learn what works and what doesn't ... you can't expect to get rich by copying everyone else, you need to find what works for you, what YOU are great at, and exploit that to the maximum

I would say not necessarily.
Sometimes it is better not to know too much because when you do you tend not to focus on one thing at a time and so you find that your profits also decline in the process. On the other hand it you are focus and put what you learn to use then I would say yes and you learn more you earn more. |

I'd say the more you earn, the more you learn.
Meaning as you earn more, you learn what's important and what's not which allows you to cut through the BS much more easily. Cheers, Neil |

For me it has always been "The More you learn the less you have to do to earn"
Take SEO and SEM for example, 80% of what your read is completley uneccessary to achieve the results you require. Its the old 80/20 rule again. Once you get to the point of knowing the 20%, life becomes a little easier. Terry |

No doubt about it learning is important...but even more important is implementing. After 17 years of coaching on this, I'm completely amazed at the large percentage of people who quit and walk away just before they were likely to get some great results.

Hi Ryan,
I think that's a bogus statement. It's not knowledge that gets you sales or ahead, but the action combined with the knowledge. For instance, I know a guy who has been in college for over 20 years. He never held down a job, but continues to insist that he hasn't learned enough yet. Now this guy isn't getting anywhere but in deeper debt. He takes out all kinds of loans so ... He asked me not that long ago why I am making the money I make, and why he can't. I told him that's because I took action, and he didn't. He could do the very same thing if he wanted to, but he's afraid to step out and take action. Here's another example: How many times have you seen new people claim information overload? Learning is good, but if you are just seeking knowledge, you are not moving. And moving or taking action will allow you to grow so you can take a step forward. |

Here's my take on this.
I did a variety of activities and learned a hell of a lot for the last 4 years or so. But only recently did I discover how to translate that into a full-time income. Gathering more knowledge is like upgrading your light bulb from 15W to 40W to 60W to 100W etc. But if you don't have simple electricity, it's useless. However, if you stop reaching around in the dark and find the light switch, then the fruits of all your previous efforts do count and are worth it. This has been my experience anyway. |
