Tracking Visitors Actions for Freight Shipping Broker

I am looking to build to my experience/generate income in SEO with a freight shipping broker. They are a small business, and I heard about this company and what I had to offer them from one of my friends. Well, the two owners liked the idea of talking to me, a young pup with a strengthening skillset in SEO and web design, and at the conclusion of our conversation, they would like to see what I can do for them. I'm very confident this will create nothing but more freight shipping leads for their business.
I'm going to need to track the visitors' actions. I will need to track the visitors and be able to confirm that the visitor I generated either made a phone call to the company or confirmed a shipment (made a sale). I was thinking the business can designate a link (a homemade affiliate link
) that I will use in my own website, articles, etc. to their sales page that my visitors can be traced down with Google Analytics or some other tracking software.
Basically, my question is: How can I track the actions of the traffic that I generate for this shipping broker (so that I may be compensated accordingly)?
