Best/Cheapest way to test a product

I have 1 physical product that I want to sell. But I think this will apply to pretty much any project.

I already have an exact match domain.

Assuming that I can drive traffic to it, to test the sales proposition, what's the quick and dirty way to put up a site, have my prospective customers click the buy button, and then lead them to a "sold out" page.

1) word press site on a cheap host
2) a free word press theme
3) a cheap/free paypal plug in for word press
4) some way to capture the email to follow up when the product is "back in stock"

Thanks in advance,
Strasburgo

u do know that not all who clicks on the buy button actually goes tru the whole thing and buy right?

so sending them to a sold out page and taking that result as 100% [those who clicked on buy] covnerted to sales is not accurate at all. =)

You'd be surprised. I never understood it, but even with the price listed front and center on my sites I still get tons of people visiting my buy pages and not purchasing.

If that is what you're testing, I'm not so sure that it would yield trustworthy results.

I'm looking to see how many people put in their cc's #'s, addresses, and then click the buy button and expect the unit to ship in 7-10 days.

After that, I hit them with the "sorry, this unit is on backorder" message, we will email you when the product arrives"

I'm pretty sure those are actual sales.

I just don't know *how* to do this kind of thing 4hww style testing.

          What programs/websites can do this?

What is your desired result from this test? Are you looking to see how many people are actually interested in buying said product?

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

      Yes.

I've got the prototype sitting on my desk and a lot of local feedback "ooh that looks cool, i'll buy one...even though it's not for sale", but I want to see how the "interwebz" really feel when it comes to ponying up the cash.

If the bag actually reflects local feedback and it's not just my friends and acquaintances wishing me well, then it makes sense to do a huge launch (using affiliates, building out a decent e-commerce site, and going to China/Asia to get it made)

If the web thinks i'm crazy with my current offer, I can modify the product, change the price, et cetera to see if the thing can sell at all. If it's not a marketable idea at all, then I move on to product idea/niche market #91 and test in the same fashion.

I'm assuming all of you guys who do digital products test the waters before you record one second of your webinar or write one word in your e-books? Right?

Are you looking to see how many people what want to buy the product or the people who can actually buy the product. If you are testing, you can sell an abridged version of the product to see how it goes and see the number of people who actually bought the it.

      It's a physical product, so I can't sell 1/8th of a laptop bag.
