Wow, Google really has a firm grip on the internet!

Wow, its really amazing how much of the market is under Google's order. I mean, I always hear about how Google has the biggest share of searches online, but it never really hit me until now.

I was checking my traffic data and I have been noticing for a keyword that I rank #5 on Google I get over 100 UV a day, but for the same keyword, I rank #1 on Yahoo And I only get about 10 UV a day.

And it's not just this one keyword, I checked whole bunch of other keywords as well and the results are the same. It just really shows how big Google is and how many more people use Google than yahoo and others.

I checked with Bing and its even worse.

It really caught me by surprise, I didn't think there was that big a gap between Google and other search engines.

Yea, my sites have always been like that with Google. Very little traffic from the other engines in comparison to Google. However, I also target most of my marketing towards Google's algorithm instead of Yahoo or Bing's.

Now-a-days Google is really clamping down on their search results. It is essential to make sure you are only using White Hat SEO Techniques.

After all of the Google Algorythm Changes(specifically Panda), its important to continue strong SEO without getting banned!

Your right, Google is huge. They capture almost all of the search market. I can't imagine being banned from Google!

As long as you(and I) use White Hat techniques and stay away from the Content Farms, we should be successful and continue enjoying our high rankings!

      Cheers!

Yes, that's why many SEO companies, like ourselves, need to continually test and innovate our strategies to comply with Google.

Google owns the market-share on the internet and the other search engines follow behind it.

Where Google goes, the rest of the world goes.

Well, I was actually thinking the other way. I just thought about this, for a site like mine (at least this one) that relies heavily on Google traffic, that basically means I and the money I make from the site are under Google's control.

That is scary and I actually think instead of focusing all of our efforts trying to optimize for just Google, we should all work on getting traffic from other medias like social networking. So if one day your Google traffic disappear for whatever reason, your income doesn't completely disappear.

Nice job on the site btw, 100UV's daily for 1 keyword is awesome

True, but a lot more people tend to focus on Google since they are #1 overall, out of any website of any niche.

Even though a majority of the traffic does come from Google, you still get some from other search engines, direct visits, referrals, etc. so it won't completely disappear. But having a backup plan is always a good idea

Actually, I am not really surprise.

Google is always on the cutting edge.

I heard there was a newly launched search engine, but I doubt that it can outrank Google.

However, Change is the only constant, we shall soon find out.

I agree 100%. Google is number 1 because of its constantly updated algorithyms, it gives the users a spam free experience. This is good for the web owners with quality sites (they are the ones making the big bucks), but bad for your average spam marketer (most marketers don't know that they are in this category).

I love that google updates so much, sure a couple of sites might tank for a while, but for the most part I have never had any probs with google suddenly de-indexing my sites. I always use fresh content and great backlinks.

I use automatic software for backlinks, but I make sure that my footprint is minimal.

Google is the king in the search engine world for sure, but something like 90% of the internet and traffic out there has nothing to do with Google. I'm not sure of the exact figure, but I believe I read that somewhere.

Are you saying that you read 90% of traffic across the Internet has nothing to do with Google or 90% of traffic to different websites has nothing to do with Google?

For example, a lot of people don't use Google when they go to FaceBook, they just go directly there. Are you counting that in the 90%?

yeah, Exactly, Google has got the highest share in searches

In fact, if you aim that your keywords get a higher ranking in google, they will automatically get better in yahoo, bing and others

Focus on getting on top on google, that would be the best !!

    Fixed that for you.

Some of us don't rely on search engines for traffic.

See, the thing about "search" is that it's something you use for things you either don't know or have forgotten.

Some people are trying to operate "under the radar." They want to quietly run a business nobody knows about, doing something they don't have to explain to their family, or to their neighbours, or to the government. They use proxies and VPNs and domain privacy and a maze of redirection and aliases to keep what they're doing secret so nobody figures it out.

Those people need search. If it weren't for search, their business would not - indeed, could not - work at all.

There's nothing wrong with this model, but it is disingenuous to pretend it's the only model there is. Not a single blue chip company on the NYSE was built using Google traffic, and indeed people built businesses without it for hundreds of years.

All true, although the big guys are not immune from getting nabbed by Google, either. Just ask JC Penny!

That being said, you're still going to need search engines if you want to bring in new customers who are unaware of your online presence, and go looking for info on a product or service in your niche. Sure, you should leverage what you get from search engine referrals into your own list, and get traffic from many other sources, though. It would be crazy not to.

Yeah, I need to get in board with facebook and twitter.

Thanks, it really took a lot of effort and time. It's the big "make money online" keyword. I rank #1 for it (goes up and down between 1 and 4-5). To be honest though, I really thought I would get more traffic for ranking for "make money online" keyword. But oh well, 100 is 100 and since its targeted its great.

Sure, your point is well taken. Lots of people get their traffic other wise. I was just really surprise with this and to be honest it really woke me up. Although I dont solely rely on Google, I do heavily. It really made me think about this and I am already working on other traffic generation methods tat dont have much to do with SEO and search engines.

A lot of people don't even worry about search engine ranking, not because they want to be under the radar, but there are just easier ways to make more money. For example, Google generally hate squeeze pages so they wouldn't send a ton of traffic to it, but Warrior Forum could send a ton of people to a squeeze page - plus, the people going would generally provide a higher conversion rate for you.

Something tells me that the guys over at Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, and even media companies like News Corp and the Walt Disney Company will disagree with you.

Google has a firm hold on SEARCH ENGINE traffic, however, many large companies spend a lot of money each year ensuring TYPE IN traffic--and for many of them their branding efforts pay off. Immensely.

even tho google is the very best player in the field, and everybody wants to play with it, my advice would be to divide your efforts to few search engines, (i dont do Big G seo only), i split my efforts something like this : for big G 70% and for other search engines 30%.
You never know then the next big update for G appears, and how its going to effect your websites. better to play safe and do some work for other SE and not to concentrate on G only.
