Why there is not a "LIKE" button on WF??

Hey,

Sometimes when some one comments on any post and if i like that comment then why there is not an option for liking that comment with thanks tab...

Sometimes it happens we just liked the comment simply because that is good but instead of LIKING we have give THANKS......

Does it happen with you too??

It would really work the same - I guess there would be a like button for if you like the comment, but not enough to actually give a thanks lol

This is WF, not Facebook. There's a Thanks button. If you use it too many times in one day, it disappears until the next day. In other words, you get a certain unknown amount of Thanks per day to use.

WF already has server load problems at times. I doubt that they will add a feature that will increase server load. You'll probably have to make do with the Thanks button.

Very true, we could really do away with several features if that meant more uptime for the forum lol

I totally agree with sbucciarel. At the place of LIKE WF is already giving you a THANKS button... If you like any post just PRESS the THANKS button.. Thats it...

I dont find a very much difference in LIKE and THANKS buttons lol

Well Sam i think there is a difference...... "Thanks" means wheb we get some helpful tips or suggestions from some one or some one who helped us we give thanks to that person...... ans "Like" is totally changes man..... "Like" means we find something pleasant or attractive; enjoy.

For ex : " I like milk"..... i hope you got my point............

          Here's something to think about.

The management may not want a like button, be inclined to have a like button or give a monkeys about it.

I'm also certain this has been brought up and discussed before, it's not like a brand new idea.

No disrespect but surely you have better things to do than debate the merits of a like button. If you like the post just say thanks for it.

"Like" means we find something pleasant or attractive; enjoy.

For ex : " I like milk"..... i hope you got my point............
Lets put this into the context we're in, the forum.

Someone says something pleasant or attractive (like giving you milk in the real world), you then say thanks to them for providing the pleasant or attractive post (or in the real world milk).

If in the real world I gave you some milk and you said "I like milk" I'd tell you to sort your manners out and say thank you.

I hope you got my point.

...and thanking someone doesn't look like spam. They are two very different things.

thats why m saying there should be a "Like" button.... so that you don't have to face such problems.............. simply sometimes it looks like you are giving thanks anonymously... it looks spam some times..... but if you like some one's comment just give a "Like" to it.... and move forward............

You get 25 Thanks buttons in a 24-hour period.

It is not set by day, but by the 24-hour window.

I run out frequently, and I keep asking admin to set the number of Thanks allowed higher, but Paul always snickers at me for it. :p

p.s. You can go to Shareaholic.com and get their browser plugin that will permit you a drop-down on your toolbar that will let you Like or Tweet any page you like at any time. This plugin is actually configured to work with dozens of social media sites. I use it religiously.

Bill. What is it with you and this obsession with the "Thanks" button?

I mean I do understand. I run out regularly and then have to post these inane one liners to say "Thank you" but I think you are worse than me :p

Having a Like button would be truly wonderful, and it's up to the admin if they want to add it or not. After all, this forum is intended for sharing ideas and experiences, getting answers, keeping abreast with the fast changing technology, etc. It's more of the discussion and helping one another.

    Just my 2 cents!

I'm not saying that though. I'm saying if someone says something you like or find helpful, you can thank them for it.

        You said...

"Like" means we find something pleasant or attractive; enjoy.

You like milk, yes? What would you say to me if I gave you milk?

You would say "thank you", that is called good manners.

It is the same with a good post. That person wrote it and you liked it, so you should say thank you.

        .....It really doesn't matter anyway.

The "Thanks" works the same as "Like" Button. When I see a post I like, I click the thanks button sometimes, often times if the post will be of help to me in the future I click the Thanks button so that when I need it, I can easily find it.

While there are differences between "like" and "thanks"......in the context of this forum, they really can be used interchangably. I think adding a "like" link or button would be superfluous and unnecessary.

Well I think I've wasted way to much time on this little issue already but as I said, it's up to the people that own this site and no amount of discussion or what you think, matters, because you don't own it and you don't get a say in it's running.

Mandeep, read what I wrote above.

If I gave you something you really liked, what would you say to me?

"Like"? No, you would say thank you.

Ouch. I'm not sure if p***ing admin off or calling Kay "Sir" is worse .

There's no need to be sorry, this a public forum and you have a right to bring up subjects you wish to.

She also wasn't referring to you as the person that joined today, you've been here much, much longer.

So don't worry, it's good to talk about these things, other people, myself included, were just saying why it may not be a good idea and as the man who runs this is a very smart chap, there is a reason there are no like buttons and there is a reason, much to Bills dismay, that we only get 25 thanks a day. He's been there, done it and probably got a nice T shirt about it.

Don't think you've done anything wrong though because you haven't.

      John,

That's the funniest thing I've read all morning.

So if you "like" someone's post, it's weird to you to use the "thanks" link? By definition, if you are thanking someone for their post, you are telling them you like it. I am confused by your confusion.

Matt also pointed out the other tools you can use to "like" a post here.

But hey, everyone pay attention......look at how prevalent Facebook is. They've got a lot of people used to using the "like" button, especially the younger generation. It's definitely a marketing lesson in action. Fascinating.

If you found a post informative or helpful, you can find more of their "best" (been thanked a lot for the post) posts by searching their Profile page.

In their Profile page, you can view their "Stats" which will show you the posts that received "Thanks".

This is a quick way to read through some of the most appreciated posts of the members that you are learning from.

I've thought the same thing and would love to have a "like" button that was unlimited.

I like a lot of posts and I was thanking people for all their great contributions and then I found out the "thanks" were limited.

And if you post how much you like the post just to post it, that is considered an unnecessary post and are told to just "thank" them, however when you reach your limit for the day, you can't thank them.

However, reading the comment about it taking too much bandwidth and slowing down an already overactive forum, I can see that it probably is not practical to add a like button.

But for my vote, if it were feasible, I'd like unlimited thanks and unlimited likes and for them to be separate buttons.

      Hello TopKat,

You could always write to those people (via PM) and thank them for such a helpful post. That way you will be making friends with them to some extent at the same time. I don't mean 20 times a day but if I ran out of thanks I would personally tell that person what a cracking and helpful post they wrote.

I think it's good there's a limit on "thanks". You make choices and judgments when there are limits imposed.

"Thanks" can mean "good post" or "I agree with you" or "that's funny" or "right on". Unlimited thanks would result in some folks thanking everyone who posts anything and that's not useful.

I see people who "thank" everyone who replies to a thread they started - even those who are clearly clueless about the topic. What's the point? Used judiciously "thanks" means something - too much of anything reduces its value.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

if it would be there.... then it will require some money..... then it woud be interesting coz you can see who "buys much beers" instead of who gets more "thanks".............

I'm not 100% sure because I blinked although I think there was a Like Button
here for about 2 milliseconds a while back.

Rumor has it that Allen moved the Like Button to his PayPal account after
he created the other paid advertising sections here in the Warrior Forum.

I'm just guessing though, I could be wrong...

    Have a Great Day!
