Actually, it really depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Do you already know what type of business you plan to build? Have you checked into the longevity of the market? In other words, were people doing it 10 years ago? Will people still be doing it 10-20 years from now? Don't build a business on quicksand that's going to crash and burn in a few months or a year!

If so, do you have a plan in place to build it or are you simply looking for a mentor to help you reach your goals? If that's the case, you may not need to attend an event at all. You could just do a 1-2 hour consult with an expert in that niche for a LOT less than attending an event would cost.

Before you make a decision to attend an event take the following test:

Write down every question you can think of that you feel is holding you back from achieving your goals right now. Once you've done that, do a search on Google, YouTube, Yahoo Answers, Bing, related forums, etc and see how many of them you can get answered for free online, from reputable sources, of course.

I'll never forget getting chastised by one of the faculty at System 2006 for asking her questions that I could have easily found answers to on Google. She was just trying to open my eyes and help me become more self sufficient. It may have been one of my best takeaways from that event and it cost me over $2,000. You just got it for free. lol

Some people talk about "the importance of networking and meeting people face to face". I call a BIG B.S. on that! I ran a business from my bedroom for over seven years and NEVER met a single customer and only met a couple of my suppliers from two of the many companies I dealt with.

Also, I know of a VERY prominent marketer in the IM niche that has run a forum with a partner that lives half way around the world. They've NEVER met in person, yet their partnership is thriving. With the invention of email, video, Skype, etc the world has become a much smaller place.

If I were starting all over again I'd only make it to events or workshops where it was going to be focused mainly on what I was trying to accomplish. If your goal is to just start attending events and getting to know people, then that's up to you. However, if you already have a good idea of what it is that you want to do, then I'd only plan on attending events that would help me reach my goals and nothing more.

If you do decide to go, always think things through carefully and have a plan "in writing" before you ever attend an event. If you're more organized you'll come away with many more takeaways and contacts.

    Good luck! :-)

Hmmm... very true. I was planning on attending Warrior Live this upcoming year in order to gain some contacts to possibly JV with. Often times I try to rely on connections but haven't reached out in as many ways as are available. Maybe I'll stay home a little more often

As far as I know, Affiliate Summits are the best events where most renowned internet marketers get together and share their ideas and experiences. For more info go to affiliatesummit.com.

If the event is small as far as the people who are attending, I will get the most out of it. Not only for the educational aspects, but also to gain those so important contacts and gain credibility. If the event has 100 guests or more, I don't think I would benefit from it and would get lost in the shuffle.

    Just my 2 cents worth...
