I would like to take a few moments and share my success:

I have been paying more attention to LinkedIn lately. I attended a local Meetup and decided to add the speaker on my LinkedIn account. This guy is in the Dallas area and he is a genius when it comes to internet marketing. 6 days after I added him to my network he did a post saying that he was looking for online marketing assistant. I sent him an email and didn't think much of it. 5 days later he responds to my e-mail and I got an interview the next day! I went to the interview and it went awesome and I got the job! I am so excited as I know I will learn so much from him, and I feel so lucky to be able to get this opportunity!

Keep in mind this is a huge step for me because I have been in retail for so long, and I feel excited to take on this new challenge, and be able to learn all about online marketing from a pro. My pay has gone up and I will actually be in an industry I enjoy!! And all because I took 5 minutes to add him on lined in and send a quick message. I am so excited!! Don't ignore LinkedIn for offline mentoring opportunities!!

"TAKE ACTION" is the first thing everyone tells you and then they leave it at that. I'll add a second part: TRACK EVERYTHING" - It's the only way to ensure your ACTION leads to results.

    • My job will be to do online marketing for a retail store, but he also does a lot of Adwords / SEO / Business Training in the area as well. Here is a summary of what I will do :
Design Facebook fan page and twitter account, I would spend 30 minutes on each every day.
To change the twitter and Facebook fan page each month depending on the season / holidays
Put QR codes on them to display each item's online description and any other important info
Do QR codes on local post cards or mailers
Write Press Releases to announce special events or promotions
Design a mobile-friendly alternative site for mobile devices
Start a blog and do a blog post once a week
Create a full spanish version of his site ( I speak spanish)
Write a bi-weekly email newsletter that ties in to facebook and twitter
Design Craigslist ads and post them daily
Incorporate link building strategies to enhance organic results
Attend local events and represent the company

Before this I was activating cell phones at a store, so this is a huge step for me

Also - Sam I plan to continue my offline business on the side and eventually branch off to do my own IM stuff.

Hi, Learn and steal all the secrets. Don't tell your boss, that after you know all - you're going to leave, because in this business nobody is working for someone, everyone want to work for himself. It's hard in the begining, I know - I'm in the same shooes with you. Good luck.

  • I turned in my 2 weeks notice at my retail job. It felt really good, since I always felt like a robot there anyways. The thing about big corporations is that all of your ideas get ignored. Even if you have an amazing idea, they gotta talk to corporate and go through all these complicated steps. Working at a family owned place I will have more influence on the decisions and feel more like a part of a team. Its going to feel good not to be in retail and to do online marketing like I've always wanted. I was looking for internships all over the place, but most were unpaid, I feel so happy that I found this awesome opportunity. It will be a great start to 2012!!
