I recently replaced a long and wordy "Sales Letter" (you know the kind) with a video on my main page.

I've noticed more and more "squeeze pages" and websites are going "Video only."

I am selling an ebook. The main page now has the cover of the book. A Video of me discussing the book on the TV News and an order link. It's all above the fold...no scrolling.

Anybody have an experience with this simple video format?

    Just a bump.

Really wondering if anyone out there has abandoned long sales copy for video and had any success?

And if you do, could I see your page?

Have you tried split testing it?

I haven't tried video. I know that, as a potential buyer, if I see a video on a site, I usually skip it. If there is no text alternative to the video, I look for an alternative site. I generally will only watch a video if I have no other choice or the site was recommended by someone I know.

But, your mileage may vary. Apparently, I'm not like other people. Other people may prefer to waste time watching a sales video, whereas I'd prefer to just quickly skim through long sales copy, which takes much less time.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

The only way to know for sure, if it works better, is to test both. Have your conversions increased or decreased since you changed it?

Course many copywriters will tell you long letters sell and they had the proof to back it up, through testing, course they really knew how to sell.

I don't see why you can't do both video and text; as some people still have super slow 56K modems and video takes forever and a day to download to their PC. Video is great if you can host for free on Youtube, but how long can this last?

Right now, we are in a recession; Google is getting tired of forking over big bucks for bandwidth. For example, case in point, vimeo used to let me host as many HD movies as I wanted, but now they want money.
