Reseller hosting for IM newbies?

Hi guys!

I would like to ask if anybody here have tried being a hosting reseller?

i think it is a good platform where one can upsell his/her SEO services. Im thinking of taking a Hostgator account, the cheapest only @ 24.95 and you get 50Gig of space and 500gig monthly bandwidth. One question though, i am newbie in IM and im only armed with some experience in offline marketing, so do you think this could work with me having zero knowledge in programing or web development? I saw in their site that once you have a reseller account, hosting concerns are automatically handled by their CS (is this correct?), meaning i can just use the cp to manage all the site so i dont really need programming skills? Input are so much appreciated.

Hi, no, the inquiries are handled by you then you go to the host (usually) and they resolve your clients problem then you get back to the client, its not usually automatic.

You also receive a free installation of whm and whmcs (fairly widely used) These are the actual software apps that run your sign ups/billing automatically. Also you will need a reseller account for the domains if you wish to offer them. Enom is the usual choice for a reseller.

Keep in mind this business although lucrative is very competitive. Upselling SEO services is a possibility, but you dont want to rock the boat too much, just have your service available in their cpanel, I dont know a host that hassles their account holders too much by email etc.

1000 clients at 10 dollars per month ads up.

    Wish you well.

there is some setup to getting a hosting website up and running. HG is a great choice. they give all that you need to get started though.

but getting it up is your job. so you will probably need to hire someone to design a site or at least and install a template. then you have to integrate the billing and domain name purchase systems.

HG gives you all the tools you need where most reseller account dont, but it is up to you to get it all up and running.

once you get it all setup, you will just use WHM to manage your customers accounts and such. WHM is kinda like cpanel, but its designed to manage multiple cpanel users. its like one level up kinda.

Providing your offline clients with the option to host their website with you is a great idea. Your clients will feel safer having a person close by to reference if anything happens.

You don't need to be technically savvy but you do have to do some middle man work.

Also, you might want to start looking into some customer billing and web hosting automation software. The most popular software (I have used this before and it works great) is WHMCS. This system will help you a lot. It is a necessity if you value your time.

The most profitable way for you to make money with web hosting in the offline niche is by offering your clients a "managed web hosting plan". What this means to the client:

    1. They will get web hosting for their website
    2. They will get support for their website at anytime. This includes technical support and any minor website changes.

    What this means for you:

You get to charge more than $4/month or whatever the major hosting companies are charging. You can charge, $10, $20, or even $30 a month. The amount you charge depends on the website and the client.

Hey guys, im sorry it took me awhile to reply to my thread. Thank you very much for your inputs and im proud to say that i have learned a lot from your replies.

@ TheJustWarrior - That is actually my plan, integrate seo services but keep it simple so my market can comprehend our objectives (many SEOs offering similar services overloads their clients with so much technical stuff that i dont personally think will win their patronage)

@ David Keith - Its good that HG provide startup "hosting providers" like us with the tool to manage the accounts with ease

@ TiTan - Thank your for your input titan, providing hosting as part of the web design package can synergies our efforts and also help our prospect clients!

Providing hosting services to clients as a reseller is not a bad way to make some extra money. I personally coach and provide services for resellers to get their businesses up and running, and profitable.

Typically we provide the higher level support so the resellers can relay them to their clients, we also insure that reseller providers are transparent to their customers (This is important if you want to look professional online)

So many other reseller providers out there will change your custom error pages, so when new clients climb aboard or one of your clients sites is having a problem the error page advertises for your provider, "Very unprofessional" in my opinion. Also make sure you have Virtual private nameservers. When someone does a whois lookup on a domain you want them to see YOUR reseller business not your providers

Which ever provider you do choose make sure you steer clear of the "unlimited" providers out there, or you will end up on a server that's heavily overloaded, and will suffer complaints from your clients. You know as well as I that you can't have UNLIMITED servers, and who wants their webpages to take 30 seconds to load because a provider is trying to overload a server to keep costs down....

I have a reseller account with HG and though I don't sell hosting, it is really nice to have that separate cpanel for each site.

And you will love this - with the reseller package Hostgator gives you a sweet bonus an ebook titled -

"GETTING & MANAGING YOUR FIRST 1,000 CLIENTS IN WEB HOSTING"

It is 192 pages and contains a ton of information on getting set up, orders etc.
