  • Host Gator is a very run of the mill shared host. If you want good hosting you have to pay for it.

Host Gator has a bazillion servers. It's likely one has crashed, or someone has clearly overloaded it in some way. That's the downside to cheap shared hosting

All you can do is contact their tech support and wait.

Call them up and ask what happened. The same thing happened to me while in a product launch here. Turns out the spike in traffic from the launch made them take my site down. I have reseller hosting, too. I'm thinking about moving my stuff somewhere else.

You'll find Hostgator support much quicker, easier and more useful than support (for HG issues) from the WF.

I agree. It's probably best if you just use their online chat help feature and they'll help you out quickly.

No ****, Einstein... I just wish I have a dollar for every smart ass like yourself.

Anyways, in the end it was NOT:

      • Traffic spike
      • Any Plugin
      • Any other issue with MY sites

It was some sort of issue with Hostgator. All sites went dead and Hostgator couldn't tell what was going on. All my sites in THAT one hosting package went dead for at least 5-15 minutes, including the basic HTML sites. Heck, even a site with a blanc html file went dead.

Now everything is fine and hopefully won't happen again next 12 months...

But since some genius use the forums at WF, let me say that BEFORE I even opened a thread in here I was on live chat for 2 hours, since the problems were ongoing for some time, with FTP access going off/on - which triggered my attention.

And in the end, Hostgator couldn't tell what the heck happened...

But hey!! Good to know some GENIUS use this forum huh!!

I totally agree. There are so many smart ***** here on this forum but sometimes I cannot blame them. Anyway, I am glad to hear you resolved your issues.

Agreed, that could have happened at any hosting company, it just happened to be at HostGator this time. Yes, if you buy expensive hosting or a dedicated server, you're more likely to be online more since you aren't effected by other customers but it can still happen.

Either way, glad to here it got resolved for you!

My sites are still up but I was thinking about doing a reseller program there so I might look in to other places now that I see a few other people have had this issue. I don't want to be mid product launch and have it go out.

I had a problem like this a few months ago, HostGator support told me it could be a plugin causing the problem by using too much resources, but they said they couldn't specifically identify what was causing the problem. Eventually after 1 or 2 weeks, everything went normal again, so I don't know what was causing it.

I gave HostGator the flick for (repeated) reasons like this a couple of years ago and switched over to Host Duplex.

I can say that the service from Host Duplex is actually the best that I get from any business that I deal with in any area of my life. And given how problematic hosting can be as a business, that's really saying something.

I've referred a few people there and everyone has come back raving about how awesome they are. I suggest you go there, jump onto live chat (if during business hours) and see if you don't come away just as impressed as myself and everyone else.

I have had Hostgator for years and never had any problem actually. Have been working smooth all the time and very friendly support.

Coming from an Ex server admin at Hostgator, I can tell you that either the server is experiencing some down time, and it will be back to normal quick. Or you have been temporary suspended due to high loads coming from your site. To get this cleared up just enter the chat and see if you have any TOS tickets, if so just read it, reply to it and make the changes suggested.

If you do that and start a quick chat to get the ticket escalated you will have access to your site again ASAP

My sites are up, in 2 years of using HG I don't know if i have any downtimes.
They in few occasions suspended my article site due to too much crawling of Google search bot.

That is uncalled for. You are the one going ballistic over a 5-15 minute downtime.

Sites being down once in a great while for a few minutes does not constitute an emergency for me....Things happen - things go wrong. What matters is how quickly problems are corrected.

Yes, it's frustrating to have hosting down but to immediately start slamming a service instead of giving it a reasonable amount of time for a correction is a waste of emotional energy and time.

Oh well I just cancelled my gator account. Due to poor online C/S.

I do not feel that it right to tell it here, as to want transpired.

Lets just said it is lack of knowledge with the online C/S, and their lack of training.
This also was escalated up the ladder.
