Does anyone use a .me ext?

Does anyone have any strong views, either for or against a .me ext.

I have the perfect "phrase" for my niche, which I'd like to use as a domain name to build a brand. I just want it to be recognized in the niche.

I can't get a .com, likewise a .org, .net or .info

I could get a .co if I really wanted to. I decided to go for the .me, so I don't lose loads of people who search for the .com.

Most of my traffic will be through links anyway so it's OK on that basis.

So...could I build a successful brand of a .me ext? Something return visitors will remember to type in.

If I make money off it, I could buy the .com in future.

Google now counts ".me" extensions as "top level", for international rankings, so for SEO purposes it's no different from a .com/.net/.org or whatever. Don't imagine that it will rank well only in Montenegro.

The big issue is how it's going to look to potential customers.

Yes, regarding the SEO considerations, anyway.

The difference in price between a .me and a .com was only $4, the last time I looked? Can you not buy the .com now and not worry about this? Do one gig on Fiverr, or something, and you'll have the difference ...

Oh, I see - sorry!! And thank you ...

(What makes you so sure it'll be for sale in future, though?).

The domain is held by a company just now, who will listen to offers for their domains.

I might not buy it in the future. It really depends if I could get away with having the .me ext.

I'll obviously use SEO at some point so a .me is OK. It's just how it looks to customers.

TBF, the site will include a lot of my personal opinions, so a .me probably looks better than a commercial domain. Maybe the .net would have been better.

I do know it's always nice to have the .com, though.

I just don't know if .me is popular enough for people to remember, or even think about.

most people here will tell you to get a .com but I don't think a .me is a bad idea. visa just launched www.v.me in case you didn't know.

I haven't. I've been sticking with .com, .net, and .info.

.com is always preferable because it holds the strongest brand name. Regular internet users are accustomed to going to websites with a .com because most regular internet users visit bigger ended websites (google, yahoo, popular blogs, video sites).

You should first think about what you are going to use your domain for. Since the OP says that he wants to build a "brand" I think .com is the way to go. But if you can't get a .com, then a .me can work depending on the niche and the words that you are using before the .me extension.

I think Visa made a mistake branding their website using V.me but then again a billion dollar company like visa can make anything stick

Depends on the name. I bought justbite.me for a few email addresses I wanted.

I have no problems with .me or even .info . Bear in mind, what is important is efforts to drive traffic and SEO ranking. If you push enough backlinks to it, it will perform better than a .com . But if you want to use a .com and it's already taken, try putting 'hyphen' in between the words. You will normally get it
