Hello Warriors,

I have noticed lately that I am getting alot of calls from "India" that they claim they are from microsoft and your system has malicious software and its sending them alerts so they will help you to clean your system for free..

They ask you to go to start - run and open a website then download a remote software called ammy then they take control of your pc and they infect it, they can see the keystrokes and everything you type then they demand 300$ to clean u r system and they mess with it.. I knew it was a scam but I wanted to know what they were looking for.. so watch out so nobody can get to your pc and steal all your hard work..

The funny thing is when I told him it was a scam he started bashing me and cursing me lol..

Wow! Why did you let them take over control of your pc in the first place? This is crazy to say the least. Hope it was some old box that you were going to reformat or something.

So you get a random call from someone with Indian accent.. and they tell you to go download a remote control server software from a random web site? These are quite major red flags and I hope fellow Warriors would not fall for something like this.

Luckily, I am on a Mac.

I'm in Ireland and got the same call. He said he was from "Windows".

I knew it was a scam because I have a Mac but kept him talking around in circles to see what he wanted.

Not sure if it was Ammy but definitely the same scam.

LOL! How did they get your phone number?

    I also found some links:

Looks like they have opened a professional company to scam people 24x7.

It's amazing how much effort scammers put into the business of scamming. Seems like it would be easier to make money honestly.

But yeah ... not a good idea to let someone have remote access to your PC, and Microsoft or "Windows" doesn't call you and ask for remote control of your PC.

I am from Ireland and I also got one of these phone calls.

I managed to keep her on the phone for about thirty minutes. I pretended that her instructions had wiped my computer and I actually sobbed and cried down the phone for ten minutes because I had lost all my data (much to the amusement of my wife who was sitting beside me). Even though the person from "Windows" believed that I was that upset, she still tried to get my credit card details. Nasty!

I then developed a ten minute long of case of flatulence which seemed to end her interest in my computer problems. Oh well.
