I love movies and video games.Just registered a domain:newbatmanmovie.com,but other than amazon, I can't find products from other affiliate network (such as cpa, clickbank,cj)to monetize this domain with.
So what do you warriors think about this domain?

some extra info about the domain:22200 global monthly search and 14800 local monthly search, all are exact match. And I don't use adsense since there are enough terrible stories about it.

Well, first of all, if your domain starts getting any significant attention... and maybe even if it doesn't... DC Comics, who own the "Batman" trademark, are going to email your registrar and say "we own this trademark, please hand over that domain." And your registrar will do that. And you will have jack squat.

There are loads of threads about trademarked domains on here that would have revealed the risk you took in buying this domain. Sure trademarked domains may be easy to rank but they don't belong to you.

You're looking at it all wrong.

It doesn't matter that you can't find products for that domain name, because you will never really own that domain name.

So your problem just went *poof* and you don't have to worry about it.

Granted, now you have another problem. But there will always be another problem. If you make a list of all your problems, and you solve the #1 problem on that list, guess what you just did?

You promoted problem #2. Congratulations. You still have a list of problems. In fact, during the time you were solving #1, you have probably added two or three new ones.

Look, you couldn't find any products for it anyway. Surely you tried, right?

What COULD you find products for?

        Go buy that domain name.

I hate to disappoint you again but... chartercabletvguide.com
Are you sure the people from "TV GUIDE" wont come up after you?

Okay, so what part of "do not use trademarks in your domain names" are you not getting?

I'm seriously, sometimes I really do think the best response to some of these threads is "you are too stupid to run a business."

EDIT: This was an overly harsh criticism. During a PM conversation, I've learned that the two domains were purchased simultaneously, before the OP asked for advice. At the time of this post, I was under the impression that once he was told to avoid trademarks and find the purpose and products for the domain before buying it, he went out and bought ANOTHER trademark domain without knowing what to do with it or what products to put on it. While that would have been stupid, buying two domains with the exact same problems at the same time is more accurately called a "mistake." I apologise for the excessive rudeness.

Yes, oh have times changed since people squatting domains and making a fortune, your comment is proof of that.

Everybody is always talking about these trademark issues but the fact is that there are sh** loads of trademark violating domains that are making some nice income and the owners of those trademarks couldn't care less.

You probably wouldn't be able to sell as an Amazon affiliate from that website either. I once tried using the domain appleipodtouch.com and Amazon emailed me to say no way Jose! (although this one is probably a bit more blatant than yours!)

That's true. There seems to be a lot more "concern" in the forums than trademark "abusers" suffer for in "real life".

      You still face some risk.

Best case scenario, the trademark owner never comes after you. This could be because they don't chase their trademarks or they are not aware of your site.

Most likely scenario is your ISP gets a CND to take down the domain. Just do it and if you made some money before that happens, then good for you.

Worst case is they take your domain and come after you for damages. This is likely only going to happen if you have a very successful web site with high revenue. If you don't make a significant amount of money, then you may just lose the domain with no penalty.

Some trademark owners pursue their property more aggressively than others. The more web savvy a company, the more likely it will come after unauthorized domains. Just try to register a domain using PayPal in the domain name and you'll get a CND within about 48 hours just for registering. How do I know?

Other companies may not actively pursue every site, but if they see you ranking up with them, or they get contacted by customers who think they are associated with your site, then even lax companies may fire off a CND.

A lot of IMers using trademarks in domains are making niche or sniper sites for particular products. They don't worry about the risk because they'll just drop the domain if they get a CND.

      EDIT: Re: Monetization

In the movie/entertainment niche you should be able to find a lot of related CPA offers like NetFlix. Search OfferVault for "Movies", "TV", "Films", "Entertainment", etc.

You can also monetize sites like this by offering a quiz like "How well do you know Batman?". When they click "Check My Answers", they have to complete a CPA offer before they can see their score.

You can use a "content locker" on film clips and previews so vistors have to complete a related or unrelated CPA offer to access the content.

Check the terms of the CPA offer to be sure you can use any of these tactics!

Some of whom don't even recover money damages:

Doesn't make sense why they'd do that other than simply protecting their rights
and maybe putting a stop to someone's activities, no?

That's exactly why they do it. Trademark owners are legally required to protect their trademark or they could lose the rights to it.

Both of those domains are risky due to trademark infringement. A little more planning and research should help avoid these troubles in the future. As mentioned previously, you could end up with a lot more problems or nothing could come of it at all...but the question is...are you willing to take that risk?

First of all, stop being keyword greedy. I did this too, years ago. You get so wrapped up in thinking that business is in identifying keywords that you forget there are people behind them. More importantly, you forget to track down and discover who these people are, what they are interested in.

Don't go after a keyword first. Biggest mistake when I first got started. I would buy domain names just because one got millions of searches a month and had 20,000 competing websites. It's exciting and that sort of thing is a great find, but do you think it's going to make you money?

Let me ask you a question. If you discovered that "how to pick your nose" was a keyword that got 1,220,000 searches a month (with exact search checked), and that there were only 12,000 websites listed in the Google search index, with allintitle: 4, and allinurl: 18 - do you think you would make any money?

Hell no! Who is going to buy a guide on "picking your nose" or "amazon pick your nose products"? Just because you can get all the traffic in the world through a keyword, doesn't mean that you are going to make money.

I have sites to this day that get hundreds of visits a day, and they have never made me money. Why? because I built them when I was first learning, and I keep them around as a reminder of what NOT to do.

You are thinking along the right lines of identifying a target audience, but you don't need to work that hard at it. Batman - what can you do with that? I collect batman comic books as an investment - it's hard enough to sell them right now. I'm a Batman expert, but I wouldn't touch this market, because someone already established "Batman, through printed media" as a business.

Time to create your own. Something that is evergreen, most importantly just help people with all of your heart - money follows if you can just do this. Might even take you a couple of rounds to get it right - It did for me too

        I agree whole-heartedly.

It also seems that folks are getting too wrapped up in ranking for their "domain keyword" when they could really just be building an authority site and ranking ALL KINDS OF PAGES for ALL KINDS OF KEYWORDS.

Remember, it's not a website that gets ranked in the SERPS, it's individual pages. Your domain could be mdoajmoeafj.com and it wouldn't really matter, because it's your individual pages that need to be keyword-optimized, linked to, and ranking.

Besides, you can rank your internal pages for ANY keyword you want, without the fear of any legal repercussions whatsoever... last I heard, anyway.

Do you think Squidoo.com makes all their millions upon millions because 100,000,000,000 people a month are searching for the term "Squidoo?"

Okay, so what part of "do not use trademarks in your domain names" are you not getting?
Agree, avoid trademark domains as often as you can, though you can use some domains with trademark by writing disclaimer or trademark page, saying that all trademarks belong to the owners and this is only fan page or smth like that.

Though this works not always, depends on the trademark.
